Position Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Project & Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment to support construction, maintenance, snow removal, site preparation, and infrastructure projects across Capital Auto Group and Howard Properties locations. This role is ideal for an experienced operator who takes pride in maintaining equipment, working safely, and contributing to the successful completion of projects in a variety of working conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment including dump truck, excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, snowplows, and other specialized machinery.
- Perform site preparation, excavation, grading, trenching, snow clearing, and material handling activities as required.
- Support road repairs, drainage and sewage projects, utility work,and general site development.
- Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and complete routine equipment checks before and after use.
- Clean, lubricate, refuel, and maintain equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Identify mechanical issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns and report them promptly to supervisors.
- Load, transport, and move materials such as soil, gravel, rock, snow, and construction materials safely and efficiently.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations while operating equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, contractors, and team members to ensure projects are completed on time and to required standards.
- Complete additional duties assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in construction, industrial, or related environments.
- Heavy Equipment Operator certification or equivalent training is preferred.
- Valid Class 3 Driver's License with Class 8 Air Brake Endorsement and Class 9 Heavy Equipment Endorsement required.
- Strong understanding of equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Ability to perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with supervisors and team members.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to workplace safety and safe equipment operation practices.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Frequent exposure to vibration, noise, dust, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including bending, twisting, climbing, and manual material handling.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is always required.
- Exposure to construction sites, active work zones, heavy machinery, and varying terrain.
Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. Hours may vary during snow-clearing operations based on weather conditions.

Pay: $25.00-$32.00 per hour
