About the Role
AtlantiCann Medical Inc. (AMI) is currently seeking an HR Generalist. The HR Generalist is responsible for managing essential human resources functions, maintaining accurate employee records, and assisting in HR operations to meet legislative and business requirements. The HR Generalist will oversee recruitment and onboarding, support payroll and timekeeping, manage employee relations, and contribute to process improvements that ensure an efficient and compliant workplace.
Hours of Work: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Mon–Fri
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding/Offboarding
- Post job openings, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and extend offers
- Prepare and process offer letters, employment contracts, and new-hire documentation
- Conduct new-hire orientations and facility tours to ensure smooth integration
- Manage separation processes, including exit interviews and final paperwork
Payroll, Benefits & Time Management
- Maintain accurate attendance records and administer time-off requests
- Act as first-line contact for employee benefits inquiries
- Enroll new hires and process mid-year changes or terminations in benefit plans
- Liaise with carriers to resolve claims and coverage questions
Employee Relations & Support
- Act as primary HR contact for facility-based employee questions and concerns
- Facilitate workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and performance discussions
Compensation Board
- Administer WCB claims and liaise with healthcare providers and the Workers’
- Promote a positive work culture through ethical HR practices and clear, timely communication
Administrative & Compliance Support
- Maintain confidential employee records in accordance with Nova Scotia employment standards, the Cannabis Act, and company policy
- Draft, update, and communicate HR policies and procedures (e.g., leave entitlements, code of conduct), ensuring all employees receive and acknowledge changes
- Manage employee background checks and security clearances required by provincial or federal regulations
- Assist with development and rollout of new HR programs and initiatives
- Compile and submit documentation for WCB claims, benefits audits, and other statutory filings to meet all deadlines and regulatory requirements
- Serve as the HR point-of-contact for internal and external compliance inquiries, escalating issues to leadership as needed
Additional Duties
- HRIS & Reporting: Audit and update HRIS data; generate regular metrics (turnover, time-to-fill, absence rates) and ad-hoc analyses for leadership
- Health & Safety Support: Coordinate health and safety initiatives, including training and reporting requirements
- Employee Engagement & Recognition: Help design and coordinate engagement initiatives (pulse surveys, spotlight awards, team events); compile survey results and collaborate on action plans
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma/certificate in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 2–3 years of HR experience, ideally in a regulated production or manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of Nova Scotia labour standards, WCB processes, and HR best practices
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using an HRIS/payroll system
Site Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability and willingness to work in environments that could include exposure to bright lights, chemicals, fumes, and odours.
