We are looking for a skilled Cook to join our Dining Services Team. This role prepares and delivers nutritious, high-quality meals – ensuring meals are prepared safely, and in accordance with dietary guidelines - while contributing to a warm and respectful dining experience that enhances residents’ quality of life.

Schedule: 11am – 7:30pm, Sunday - Thursday
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals to order, with attention to individual resident preferences, dietary needs, and texture modifications
- Operate a grill or short-order station as needed, ensuring prompt and courteous service during meal periods.
- Prepare batch items for regular meal service and special functions.
- Accurately portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold menu items, ensuring nutritional standards are met.
- Read and execute meal production sheets and resident dietary profiles; respond to verbal requests from staff or residents regarding meals.
- Deliver consistently high-quality food service while maintaining a compassionate and respectful approach to residents.
- Follow standardized recipes and preparation techniques for soups, sauces, proteins, vegetables, desserts, and therapeutic diets.
- Safely operate kitchen equipment to wash, cut, mix, cook, and prepare ingredients; ensure safe handling of meat, poultry, fish, fruits, and vegetables.
- Estimate daily food production needs, track usage, and assist with inventory management and supply requisitioning.
- Prepare meals in appropriate batch sizes using classical and institutional cooking techniques for consistency and waste reduction.
- Keep accurate records for food production, inventory use, and cleaning schedules as required by regulatory and home standards.
- Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment.
- Maintain fridge and freezer cleanliness and organization; conduct daily temperature checks and record on designated logs.
- Complete HACCP logs for cooking, cooling, reheating, and hot/cold holding of food items.
- Taste test food items as needed to ensure flavor, temperature, and texture meet expectations.
- Set up food service lines and dining stations with appropriate menu items, utensils, and garnishes.
- Assist with stocking kitchen, fridges, freezers, and dry storage areas while ensuring First In, First Out (FIFO) rotation.
- Receive, store, and move food and supply deliveries.
- Safely store leftover food products, label and date items, and ensure proper cooling and refrigeration.
- Accept responsibility for proper use and care of equipment and supplies
- Perform additional duties as required
Qualifications:
- Culinary Certificate/Diploma, Culinary Training preferred
- ·Valid Food Handlers Certificate
- ·Three or more years of related work experience
- ·Proven track record in preparing food in accordance with current applicable Health and Safety standards, guidelines and regulations
- ·Able to communicate in English, both verbal and written
Mandatory requirements:
- Cleared Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Two-Step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test
- Completion of online mandatory training modules
Process:
1) A brief initial phone call - This will last up to ten minutes and will involve questions about previous experience, how you handle certain situations and availability.
2) A first in-person interview - This interview will last between 30 & 45 minutes and will focus on getting to know you as a person as well as give you a chance to get to know Christie Gardens. There will be no questions based on your previous professional experience and the interviewer will not be from the Dining Services department.
3) A Second in-person interview - This interview will last between 30 & 60 minutes and will involve questions around previous professional experience. The Team Leader for Dining Services will conduct this interview, likely with one other member of the Leadership Team.
4) A Third Team Interview – This interview is less formal, hands on, and will last approximately 2-3 hours. You will spend time in the Dining Services department with a member of the team to see what the job would be like.
5) References – A member of Human Resources will reach out to you for 2-3 references – current or previous managers or direct supervisors.
