As we continue to expand, we are maintaining and strengthening a key Store Manager / Licensed Optician position within our organization. This is an existing position, and we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced optical professional to step into this important leadership role. The position combines hands-on dispensing expertise with strong leadership and operational management responsibilities. The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering exceptional eye care, supporting team development, driving store performance, and ensuring every patient receives the highest standard of service that Hakim Optical is known for.
About the Role
The Store Manager / Licensed Optician is responsible for overseeing daily store operations while providing expert optical dispensing and patient care. This role requires a balance of clinical optical knowledge, customer service excellence, and retail leadership.
Responsibilities
Optical Dispensing & Clinical Support
- Assist clients in selecting eyeglasses by advising on lens materials, designs, frames, tints, and coatings
- Advise clients on the proper use and care of contact lenses
- Obtain and interpret eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions from Optometrists or Ophthalmologists, or by neutralizing eyewear using a lensometer
- Measure pupillary distance, eye curvature, and other optical measurements using specialized equipment
- Adjust finished eyeglasses to ensure proper fit, comfort, and alignment
- Cut, edge, and finish lenses into frames with precision and accuracy
Patient Care & Clinical Preparation
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by Optometrists or Ophthalmologists
- Support efficient patient flow throughout the store and exam process
- Resolve customer concerns related to eyewear, prescriptions, and product satisfaction
Store Leadership & Operations
- Oversee day-to-day store operations and ensure smooth workflow
- Supervise, coach, and support team members to achieve service and sales objectives
- Manage scheduling, staffing, and overall store performance
- Ensure compliance with company policies, optical standards, and operational procedures
- Support hiring, onboarding, and training of staff
Inventory, Lab Coordination & Merchandising
- Support merchandising and maintain a professional store presentation
- Coordinate shipping and receiving of ophthalmic instruments, eyewear, and materials to and from suppliers and laboratories
- Ensure accurate tracking of optical orders and inventory
Order Management & Administrative Duties
- Enter, verify, and maintain customer and order information in the system
- Contact customers regarding order pickups and updates
- Recall customers for follow-up care or recommended check-ups
- Close daily sales, reconcile transactions, and prepare banking deposits
- Handle phone inquiries in a professional and customer-focused manner
Qualifications
- Licensed Optician (or Optometric Dispenser certification in Ontario)
- Previous experience in optical retail, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role
- Strong knowledge of lenses, frames, and optical dispensing techniques
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Proven ability to lead or support a retail team
- Strong sales ability with a consultative approach
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Professional, reliable, and team-oriented mindset
Assets:
- Experience as a Store Manager or Assistant Manager in optical retail
- Familiarity with insurance billing and POS systems
- Experience in high-volume retail environments
