As a Mechanic II, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and inspecting heavy equipment and industrial machinery to ensure maximum uptime and performance.

What You'll Do
- Diagnose mechanical issues and determine required repairs
- Repair and replace damaged, worn, or malfunctioning equipment components
- Perform preventive maintenance on heavy equipment and industrial machinery
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical, and equipment systems
- Use computerized diagnostic tools and testing equipment
- Reassemble equipment following repairs and verify proper operation
- Conduct equipment inspections and performance testing
- Read and interpret blueprints, operating manuals, and technical drawings
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
- Lubricate, clean, and service equipment and vehicles
- Support yard operations and special projects as assigned
- Identify and report safety concerns and equipment deficiencies

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 5 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment
- OR Associate Degree in Heavy Duty Truck Repair, Heavy Equipment Repair, or related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience
- Valid driver's license required
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with industrial equipment, heavy machinery, hydraulics, and diesel-powered equipment preferred
Work Environment
This position works throughout an active scrap recycling and industrial yard environment and is regularly exposed to:
- Outdoor weather conditions
- Heavy equipment and machinery
- Dust, dirt, fumes, and noise
- Fast-paced maintenance and operational demands
Required PPE may include:
- Safety-toe boots
- Hearing protection
- Respirators
- Face shields
- Additional safety equipment as required
Physical Requirements
- Stand for extended periods, up to 12-hour shifts
- Frequently walk on uneven terrain
- Lift and carry up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and reach as needed
- Continually handle tools, equipment, and replacement parts
- Maintain close attention to detail while working independently and safely
