Full job description

The Program

At Taproot Community Support Services, we’re a 100 percent employee-owned organization through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Every employee is an owner from their first day, with a voice in shaping Taproot’s future and the opportunity to share in employee ownership dividends.

We walk alongside about 1,600 children, youth, families, and people with diverse abilities, with revenues exceeding $70 million.

Our Youth Residential programs provide culturally based programming, support and safe, home-based accommodations for youth in the care of Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) as well as an Indigenous funded agency (Usma) providing long term therapeutic care for up to 3 children or youth. These programs support children or youth who have experienced a trauma, are addressing adverse childhood experiences and/or overcoming other adversities.

In Your Role You Will

Plan and develop the program in consultation with the program manager, and plans and implements program activities and special events.
Formulate program policies and procedures and evaluates the program in consultation with the supervisor.
Oversee the day to day operation of the program by ensuring that: the necessary facilities and equipment are in place; program policies, guidelines and best practices are adhered to; and program standards and licensing requirements are met.
Supervise/oversee program staff and contractors by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.
Participate in the recruitment and selection of program staff and contractors by performing duties such as screening applicants, participating in interview panels, and making hiring recommendations.
Schedule program staff and sets up placements according to program requirements.
Orient, determine the need for, and provide training to program staff, contractors, volunteers and practicum students.
Promote public awareness of and support for the program by performing duties such as producing promotional materials and attending community events.
Liaise with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program, and represent the agency and/or program in external events.
Maintain related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
Operate motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting service recipients or on Taproot business.
Provide on-call and emergency coverage on pager or cell phone as required.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.

The Position

The Program Supervisor position will oversee the day to day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, adhere to program policies, guidelines and best practices, and meet program standards and licensing requirements.

The Program Supervisor will assist with recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and monitoring. In addition to completing supervision tasks, supporting contractors as required, managing the program budgets, allocation of funds and on-call processes. This position reports to the Program Manager.

Scheduling
One (1) Permanent part-time position working 20 hours per week:

Tuesday through Saturday, 1700-2100

Mandatory Pre-Employment Screenings and Checks

***Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

A Degree or Diploma in one of the humanities, social sciences or related field.
Minimum of three years in a similar facility or program, including at least one year in a supervisory or management role.
Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 and CPR certificates required.
Experience with basic sign language and/or alternative communication strategies training or experience an asset.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract
Ability to use common computer applications required.
Food Safe food hygiene and sanitation and WHMIS (or willing to obtain within probationary period).
MANDT or Non-violent crisis intervention (or willing to obtain within probationary period).

Other Requirements:

Successful candidate must sign an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols, and a code of ethics statement
