Overview
We are a Industrial Electrical and Automation contracting company seeking an addition to our growing team. We are small company with 8 employees and while we're growing quickly, we have a great team and are wanting to expand the technical and automation side of the workforce. We primarily work in the food and beverage industry (dairy processing plants, breweries, and fluid manufacturing facilities) across the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver, with a custom panel-building shop in Abbotsford.
We are specifically looking for another PLC Programmer and automation technician to assist with automation and technical jobs.
Candidates should have:
- A strong background in ladder logic and automation with training and work experience with industrial PLC programming and HMI development
- Experience and high familiarity with Allen-Bradley software (RSlogix 5, 500, and 5000, Studio5000, Factorytalk View HMI development). Ideally with some Siemens, Omron, and Mitsubishi experience, but Rockwell is our main brand we use
- Experience working in industrial environments
- Experience working on, wiring, and building electrical control panels
- Electrical experience, especially in 3-phase and 24VDC systems
- Driver's license and vehicle, with basic hand tools for electrical work
- Troubleshooting skills and experience
While this role will be focused on working on the automation and programming side of the company, there are often times when regular industrial electrical work is required. An ideal candidate would have an Electrical Red Seal, but this role can come with an electrical apprenticeship. All efforts will be made to focus on programming and automation work for the candidate, but there will be days or weeks where regular industrial electrical work will be done (pulling and wiring teck cable, mounting control panels, wiring motors, wiring pushbuttons and sensors, etc).
Custom, high-end electrical control panels are regularly built at our shop. Less experienced employees in this role can build panels from drawings, or if experienced with panels they can lay-out, design, and build their own panels, or even manage other panel builders. Panels typically are stainless steel and contain VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, AS-i or IO-Link controllers, power supplies, remote I/O, ethernet switches, and other common industrial components.
While some work will be at the shop and some could be done occasionally from home, candidates should expect 95% of the work time to be on site at various facilities. These range from Vancouver Chilliwack, but usually Burnaby to Abbotsford. Journeymen and highly experienced employees can expect a company vehicle after a suitable amount of time with the company (this depends on suitability and experience but it could be between 3 months and 1 year after starting). Journeymen or equivalent employees can be reimbursed for gas expenses.
There is some occasional out-of-town work into the interior of BC or along the coast, but typically only a few days a month at most. All food and lodging is covered and typically a small increase in wage when working out of town.
As we are a small company, we are looking for the right candidate. The more experience in candidates have, the better they will be for the job, and the higher they will be paid from the start. However, a strong factor in this is the 'fit' of the candidate for the team and if they can represent the company. As this role is highly technical, often times the employee will need to discuss their findings and thoughts to Plant Managers and other high-position clients, so the right person in this role is crucial. If the right person is found and they have some strong Allen-Bradley programming experience, they can work towards their Red Seal in Electrical and learn panel building and project management.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where technical proficiency and customer service skills are highly valued. A ton of experience can be gained from this role, as it will bring you into some of the largest production facilities in the Greater Vancouver area. This is a role that could really solidify someone's career and for the right person, the income level can be quite high.
