Position Summary

This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students’ progress. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College’s policies and procedures and for participating in meetings and events and on committees.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments and independent or group projects.
Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands-on training.
Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience or Red Seal Automotive Service Technician qualification.
Three (3) or more years of current, hands-on industry experience in automotive electronics, electronic module repair, or advanced electronic diagnostics.
Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing electronic control modules or similar embedded electronic systems at the circuit and component level.
Strong foundational knowledge of electronic components and subsystems used in electronic control modules, including sensors, actuators, power supply circuits, microcontrollers, and memory devices.
Demonstrated proficiency using oscilloscopes and electronic test equipment to analyze analog and digital signals and diagnose faults in electronic control modules.
Hands-on experience with surface-mount and through-hole rework techniques for multilayer electronic circuit board repair.
Willingness to complete the BC Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID) or equivalent in a timely fashion after employment commences.
Demonstrated instructional ability and knowledge of principles of adult education.
Ability to create an inclusive learning environment while supporting a diverse student population.
Evidence of commitment to teamwork and ongoing professional development.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence or eligibility for registration as a P.Eng. in British Columbia, or registration/eligibility as an Engineering Technologist (preferred).
Experience working with electronic control modules, embedded automotive electronics, or CAN-bus–based diagnostic tools (preferred).
Prior post-secondary teaching experience, including lab-based or applied technical instruction (preferred)
Completion of recognized high-voltage (HV) safety or electric vehicle (EV) certification training (preferred).
BC Provincial Instructor Diploma (preferred).
