Your Opportunity:

As an Occupational Therapist II with the Developmental Disabilities Mental Health (DDMH) Program, you’ll step into a highly specialized practice environment where your clinical expertise truly influences outcomes for adults with developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health needs.

This role offers the rare opportunity to work at the intersection of complex behaviour, mental health, and functional participation—designing meaningful interventions that enhance regulation, daily living skills, sensory processing, executive functioning, and community engagement. You’ll collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, behaviour specialists, SLPs, and therapy services while maintaining strong professional autonomy across clinic, home, and community settings.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned.

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for working both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, where you will be an integral member providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will make day-to-day clinical decisions regarding patient and family needs related to assessment, intervention, discharge, and follow-up.

You will advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient, and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and aligned with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, the code of ethics, and Recovery Alberta policies and guidelines.

You will coordinate the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area, monitor care delivery, identify service needs, and assist medical staff with caseload management. Responsibilities also include completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff.

You will participate in program development and operational planning and represent the department on committees and programs. In collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers, you will help determine staffing requirements, workflow processes, and caseload priorities.

As assigned, you will carry out the roles of direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator, and/or advocate within your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience.
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

At least 2 years working as an Occupational Therapist working with individuals with mental health concerns.
Knowledge and/or experience working directly with individuals with a dual diagnosis (IDD & Mental Health) or complex service needs.
Competency to assess sensory processing and develop and implement sensory modulation approaches.
Experience providing education and training. Valid Alberta Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle with business insurance for work related travel – work travel outside Calgary may be required.
Clinical skills necessary to conduct discipline specific and psychosocial assessment, treatment planning, psychosocial intervention and crisis intervention.
Physically be able to access various community locations including home environments, health care settings, and public locations.
Strong skills in organization, time management, problem solving and critical thinking.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Demonstrate flexibility in a continually changing health care environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a professional and timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience directly supporting adults with developmental disabilities in a community rehab or Disability service funded provider setting (day or residential).
Experience navigating the Persons with Developmental Disabilities program i.e. community living, employment, community access and specialized community support.
Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
Experience in implementing clinical best practice, program development and quality assurance.

Pay: $44.93-$59.68 per hour
