The successful candidate will be a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves professional who actively engages with employees on the production floor, drives compliance, identifies risks, implements corrective actions, and ensures the successful execution of Corporate HSE programs at the site level. The HSE Specialist will partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, HR, and site leadership to continuously improve workplace safety, environmental performance, and regulatory compliance.

- Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), environmental regulations, and company policies. Conduct routine workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and compliance audits. Identify workplace hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk. Maintain safety documentation, training records, permits, SDSs, and regulatory reporting requirements. Support external audits, inspections, and interactions with regulatory agencies as required.
- Incident Management & Continuous Improvement: Lead investigations into workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and environmental events. Conduct root cause analyses and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions. Track and analyze safety performance metrics and identify trends requiring attention. Develop initiatives aimed at reducing incidents, improving safety performance, and strengthening risk awareness. Follow up on corrective actions to ensure long-term effectiveness and accountability.
- Training, Employee Engagement & Safety Culture: Coordinate and deliver HSE training programs, safety orientations, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns. Support supervisors and managers in promoting safe work practices and accountability. Facilitate Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) activities and associated action plans. Engage employees at all levels to encourage hazard reporting, near miss reporting, and participation in safety initiatives. Coach and influence employees and leaders to strengthen safety ownership throughout the site.
- Environmental Management & Operational Support: Support environmental compliance programs, waste management activities, and sustainability initiatives. Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of materials in accordance with regulatory requirements. Work closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to incorporate safety and environmental considerations into projects, equipment modifications, and process improvements.
