About the Opportunity

A growing and highly respected legal services firm is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Bookkeeper to take ownership of the organization's day-to-day financial operations. This is a critical position responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing trust accounting, overseeing payables and receivables, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing financial reporting to leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations using QuickBooks Online (QBO) and legal practice management software.
Manage and reconcile trust accounts in strict accordance with Law Society regulations and compliance requirements.
Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, approvals, and payment execution.
Monitor upcoming payment obligations and proactively communicate cash flow concerns to leadership.
Process client invoices, track outstanding balances, and follow up on overdue accounts professionally.
Process payroll and employee expense reimbursements accurately and on schedule.
Prepare and submit GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and other statutory obligations.
Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts and provide regular financial updates to management.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
Coordinate with external accountants during year-end and audit-related activities.
Ensure financial records are accurate, compliant, and maintained with the highest level of confidentiality.
Seek clarification when needed and exercise sound judgment when managing financial matters.

Qualifications

3–5 years of bookkeeping experience, within a legal environment.
Strong understanding of trust accounting and Law Society compliance requirements.
Experience independently managing GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and related statutory obligations.
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO), Clio, and Plooto will prove an asset
Solid understanding of cash flow management, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with leadership.
