About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established construction management firm, is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join its growing team.
The organization specializes in mid-rise multi-residential developments, including condominium and apartment buildings valued between approximately $10M and $60M. In addition, they deliver a variety of commercial renovation and interior fit-up projects, including office spaces, medical facilities, sales centres, and other commercial developments.
This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator who enjoys working on diverse, technically challenging projects in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender documents to determine project requirements.
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs and cost analyses.
- Prepare competitive bids, proposals, and budgets for:
- Stipulated Price projects
- Design-Build projects
- Construction Management projects
- Solicit, review, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Issue purchase orders and ensure subcontractor pricing aligns with contract requirements.
- Develop and maintain databases for labour, material, and unit pricing.
- Assist with cost monitoring, project budgeting, and reporting throughout the construction process.
- Analyze tender submissions and provide recommendations on award strategies.
- Conduct site visits as required to support estimating activities.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, owners, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimization while maintaining project quality.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience estimating full-cycle construction projects.
- Strong experience with multi-residential and/or commercial construction projects.
- Thorough understanding of CCDC contracts and tendering procedures.
- Experience preparing trade-specific scopes of work.
- Strong ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings and specifications.
- Experience reviewing technical reports such as geotechnical and engineering reports.
- Proven ability to evaluate design alternatives and recommend cost-saving solutions.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
