ReStore Associate – Job Description

Your Impact
The ReStore Associate is the front line and public face of our Habitat for Humanity ReStores. You project professionalism and welcome customers and the community – both in person and by phone. Your contribution to the customer experience begins with the receipt of donations, and continues through testing, processing, and pricing of goods, to merchandising and sales. Your day will be a continuous bustle of physical activity, marked by frequent interruptions and shifting priorities, all aimed at appreciating our donors, satisfying our customers, and allowing the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (ReStore) to be a major contributor to Habitat for Humanity’s mission to provide affordable homeownership for hard-working families within Halton Mississauga Dufferin and around the world.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The ReStore Associate should be knowledgeable about the organization’s vision, mission, principles, and philosophy incorporating these beliefs into everyday work. The ReStore associate must participate in the day-to-day operations of the ReStore in accordance with Habitat for Humanity HMD’s established policies, procedures, and practices.
Customer Experience
- Provide positive, professional interactions with customers – in person, online, or by phone – at all times
- Maintain a high standard for cleanliness, organization, functionality, and overall presentation of the facility
- Ensure product is displayed, signed, and merchandised for optimum exposure and salability
- Ensure displays are clean, rotated, updated regularly, and kept current on social media
- Generate sales and identify and capitalize on upselling opportunities and asking for donations
- Process daily point-of-sale (cash register or POS) transactions, and end-of-day reconciliation
- Implement all policies and procedures as specified by HFHHMD
- Undertake other related duties as identified by the ReStore Manager or delegate
Donor Experience
- Adhere to established best practice Donor Experience guidelines and processes
- Provide positive, professional interactions with donors at all times. Always thank them for supporting HFH
- Screen donated goods for suitability and price according to HFHHMD pricing guidelines
- Receive/unload items, decline unsuitable donated goods tactfully, while preserving the goodwill of the donor
- Process, clean, sanitize, test, and price products before movement to the sales floor
- Accept, sort, and organize recyclable items to support our recycling, metal, and electronics waste programs
- Knowledgeable about all HFH programs being offered or alternate solutions within the local community
Loss Prevention & Risk Management
- Work following all HFHHMD Health & Safety and Loss Prevention policies and procedures
- PPE and Branded attire must be worn at all times in accordance to HFHHMD’s dress code policy
- Complete all mandatory training and ensure adherence to provincial and federal requirements
- Immediately report any suspicious activity by customers or others to the ReStore Manager or delegate
- Ensure occupational Health & Safety guidelines are followed at all times including reporting all incidents and hazards to the ReStore Manager or delegate
Job Specifications and Qualifications
- Demonstrated professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct as per HR Code of Conduct
- Excellence in customer service standard
- High degree of integrity and business ethics
- Adaptability to changing priorities as the ReStore is a fast-paced facility
- Effectiveness in addressing customer queries and complaints
- Ability to work with staff and volunteers of varying abilities and backgrounds
- Competency in the assessment of the condition of home improvement goods, furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances for resale
- Proven success in maximizing profitability and meeting sales targets
- Aptitude for merchandising, marketing and promotions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general social media applications
- Experience and understanding of occupational health and safety programs in the workplace
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and spend the day on your feet in a busy retail environment
- Possession of a valid Forklift Operator license or willingness and ability to become certified immediately
- Other related duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in a retail, and resale environment and will also include work in an office, outdoors, and production environments. The ability to work in various weather conditions throughout the seasons is to be expected. The work environment is fast-paced with frequent short-term deadlines. Critical or unusual situations occur regularly. A high level of adaptability is required. Travel within our Habitat for Humanity affiliate and within our geographical catchment may be required.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.60 per hour

Every day is different — from uncovering a special vintage piece to helping a customer find the perfect item for their home. Your work will directly support Habitat for Humanity’s mission by turning donations into resources that help build affordable housing.
