As a Welder at Kehoe Marine Construction, you’ll play a key role in building the steel structures that support our marine construction projects. From sectional barges and floating docks to breakwaters and marine equipment, the work you do in the shop becomes the foundation of projects installed across the 1000 Islands and beyond.
Working alongside our fabrication team and shop leadership, you’ll be responsible for fabricating and welding high-quality steel components with precision and care. This is a hands-on role suited to a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in their craft and enjoys seeing their work become part of something built to last.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to all Health & Safety (H&S) protocols and COR Standards
- Follow and model all company health and safety standards, including our COR safety program.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and company safety initiatives.
- Promptly report any incidents or safety concerns.
- Practice good housekeeping at the worksite
- Restrict personal cell phone use during work hours, except for company-related communication.
Welding and Fabrication
- Weld and fabricate marine structures including sectional barges, floating and stationary docks, breakwaters, workboats, and tugboats.
- Perform structural welding on mild steel using FCAW, SMAWprocesses
- Fit and assemble steel components using tack welds, clamps, and measuring tools to ensure proper alignment and dimensions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and shop drawings to ensure components are built accurately and meet project specifications.
- Lay out and mark cutting lines using measuring tools such as squares, levels, and straight edges to prepare materials for fabrication.
- Operate fabrication equipment including brake press and plasma cutting systems to cut and form steel components.
- Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, beveling, and aligning components using grinders, torches, and saws.
- Safely operate standard shop tools and equipment including drills, grinders, and metal cutting saws.
- Inspect welds and completed assemblies to ensure they meet Kehoe quality standards and client specifications.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good condition, identifying and reporting any issues early.
- Work closely with the Shop Foreman and fabrication team to coordinate daily production priorities and keep projects moving forward.
- Complete required documentation such as timesheets and material tracking accurately.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed in an active manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to loud noise, bright welding flashes, sparks, gases, fumes, and other equipment-related hazards.
- Physical demands include heavy lifting, repetitive motions, standing for extended periods, and general material handling.
- Work may involve operating near heavy machinery and working at heights.
- Standard working hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Overtime or extended hours may be available / required based on production demands and project timelines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 1+ years experience as a Welder in a steel fabrication or manufacturing environment an asset (but we are willing to train)
- Proficiency in various welding techniques, including FCAW and SMAW an asset
- Familiarity with GMAW welding processes an asset
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols required
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to welding operations.
- Technical training in the welding trade; Welding certification (e.g., CWB) preferred but not required.
- Completion of secondary school
