Full job description

Function/Purpose: To develop, coordinate, and implement recreation and activation programs to meet the various physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of long-term care residents.

Reports to: Director, Community and Recreation Services

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology, or equivalent.

- At least three to five years of experience in a health care setting

- Experience working with older adults living in long-term care

- Attention to detail and ability to manage tight deadlines

- Positive, team-work attitude and approach to work

- Excellent customer service skills

- Current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and TB skin test

- Safe Food Handling Certificate

- CPR/First Aide

Position Specific Responsibilities: include, but are not limited to:

1. Plan all staffing needs for the program department, including hiring, shift assignments and schedules while meeting budget requirements.

2. Ensure that staff are trained and that their skills are developed.

3. Establish quality indicators for the department. Maintain all audits in each department area, review and improve when necessary.

4. Ensure the completion of resident annual surveys

5. Continuously update programs to meet the needs of residents and implement new innovation programs as resident needs change.

6. Booking of bus, outings, entertainment and special events.

7. Prepare and attend resident care conferences.

8. Plan monthly calendar of events and programs tailored to resident interest, needs and abilities.

9. Act as liaison for Resident Council.

10. Understand and follow all health and safety policies

Safety Roles and Responsibilities

All staff are responsible for identifying incidents and for taking immediate action to ensure the safety of residents, visitors and other staff. Open disclosure must occur when a safety incident happens, regardless of whether it is unplanned, unintended or a circumstance that could have resulted or did result in unnecessary harm to a resident. Data and feedback from staff, resident, client, families and partners can identify system vulnerabilities to inform quality improvement efforts

Pay: $24.50-$26.50 per hour
