Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.
The Referrals Coordinator supports the Mining and Regulatory Engagement (MRE) team by coordinating the referral review process for projects and activities within the CNA's mandate. This position is responsible for receiving, tracking, and coordinating referrals while ensuring timelines are met and review processes are completed efficiently. Working collaboratively with technical staff, Participating Bands, and external stakeholders, the Referrals Coordinator supports informed decision-making through effective referral management and reporting.
Primary Duties
- Receive, review, track, and coordinate referrals received within the CNA's mandate,
- Coordinate referral reviews within the MRE team, ensuring timelines and organizational deadlines are met,
- Prepare referral correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and supporting documentation for review and distribution,
- Maintain accurate referral tracking systems, records, and documentation,
- Liaise with Participating Bands, government agencies, regulators, project proponents, consultants, and other stakeholders regarding referral matters,
- Compile technical information and prepare reports on referral activities, response timelines, and outstanding referrals,
- Support the development and continuous improvement of referral processes, procedures, templates, and tracking tools,
- Collaborate with internal departments and assist in coordinating referral-related meetings and follow-up actions, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Mining and Regulatory Engagement Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational, project coordination, and time management skills,
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail,
- Ability to interpret technical and regulatory documents and communicate information clearly,
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills,
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment,
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite,
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders,
- Knowledge of environmental permitting, mining, regulatory, or Crown consultation processes is considered an asset,
- Knowledge of First Nations history, culture, language, traditional knowledge, and natural resource stewardship is considered an asset, and
- Willingness to learn, or knowledge of, nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.
Experience and Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, Archaeology, Anthropology, Biology, Journalism, Tourism, or another related field is considered an asset,
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in project coordination, environmental or regulatory processes, Indigenous relations, administration, communications, or a related field,
- Experience coordinating multiple projects or priorities while meeting competing deadlines,
- Experience preparing reports, correspondence, briefing materials, or technical documentation is considered an asset,
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, governments, industry, or regulatory agencies is considered an asset, and
- Willingness to travel for work, with a valid BC Class 5 driver's license, with access to a reliable personal vehicle.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
