Job Description

The Environmental Services Department is comprised of Housekeeping/Laundry Aides & Utility Aides.

This posting is for an applicant pool; candidates may be considered for current or future vacancies as they arise.

HOUSEKEEPING/LAUNDRY AIDE

POSITION SUMMARY

As a valued member of Long Term Care Services, demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organization’s mission and vision. The Housekeeping/Laundry Aide is responsible for performing general housekeeping/laundry duties within established procedures, in accordance with the policies of the Home and applicable legislation. This position assumes an active role in the infection control program and assists with the orientation of new staff as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Completion of grade 11 or equivalent.

Ability to successfully complete a reading and comprehension assessment.

Knowledge of housekeeping / laundry equipment and processes.

Basic ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with residents and staff.

Successful passing of a criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of a 2 step TB test that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

A minimum of 3 months experience in a similar or related position.

EFFORT

Constant standing and walking during work periods, turning, stooping, bending and lifting.

Moving carts and performing other related tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is located in a long term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.

Exposed to conditions of extreme temperatures, chemicals, bodily fluids, germs, etc.

Work schedule to be determined; shifts include days, evenings, nights and weekends.

UTILITY AIDE

POSITION SUMMARY

As a valued member of Long Term Care Services, the Utility Aide demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organisation’s mission and vision. The Utility Aide reports directly to the Environmental Services Supervisor and is responsible for assisting with and ensuring that the requirements of the Ministry of Long Term Care and other legislation that affect the operation of the department are met. The position follows the Environmental Services department policies and procedures, ensures work areas are maintained in a safe, clean and sanitary condition. This position assumes an active role in the infection control programme and assists with the orientation of new staff as required. The Utility Aide performs daily upkeep of assigned equipment, ordering, monitor inventory, receiving and delivery of supplies as assigned by the Environmental Services Supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Completion of grade 11 or equivalent.

Ability to successfully complete a reading and comprehension assessment.

Proven knowledge in housekeeping and building maintenance and repair practices in a similar setting.

Flexible with willingness to learn new tasks, multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities.

Proven knowledge of floor care.

Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.

Able to work with minimal supervision.

Strong customer service skills with a recognition that errors and omissions may result in serious consequences for residents and staff.

Basic word-processing and email skills are required.

Successful passing of a criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening that is less than six (6) months old upon hire at time of hire.

A minimum of three (3) months experience in housekeeping and/or maintenance in a related environment.

EFFORT

Constant standing and walking during work periods, turning, stooping, bending and lifting.

Moving equipment and performing other related tasks.

Ability to lift 50lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working with cleaning materials, exposed to dirt, dust, smells, etc.

This position is located in a long term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.

COMPENSATION

As per the applicable collective agreement wage grid

Georgian Manor (OPSEU): $23.26 - $26.39 per hour

Simcoe Manor, Sunset Manor, Trillium Manor (SEIU Service): $23.81 - $25.98 per hour
