Title: Optometric Assistant
Job Location: 1910 St. Laurent Blvd, Ottawa, ON K1G 1A4
Position: Part-Time (Approximately 24 hours per week)
Hours of Work: Approximately 24 hours per week. Scheduling will be based on clinic needs and may include daytime and evening shifts. Office hours are Monday to Wednesday from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Flexibility to work occasional evening shifts is required.

What You’ll Do
As an Optometric Assistant, you will support both the clinical and retail sides of the practice by:
- Greeting patients and creating a welcoming, positive first impression
- Assisting with patient intake and updating patient records
- Performing pre-testing and diagnostic procedures prior to examinations
- Supporting clinic flow and ensuring appointments run efficiently
- Maintaining accurate patient documentation and confidentiality
- Guiding patients through the eyewear selection process by helping them choose frames that suit their lifestyle, vision needs, and personal style
- Educating patients on lens options, coatings, and products to help them make informed decisions about their eyewear
- Processing eyewear orders and ensuring accuracy throughout the ordering process
- Taking measurements for eyewear dispensing and fittings
- Following up with patients regarding eyewear orders, pickups, and outstanding purchases
- Supporting the achievement of clinic sales goals by identifying opportunities to enhance the patient experience through appropriate product recommendations
- Assisting with merchandising, displays, and maintaining an attractive and organized optical showroom
- Supporting front desk operations, including scheduling and patient communication
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and professional clinic environment
- Learning and following clinic protocols and procedures
Required Qualifications
- Previous customer service and sales experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer proficiency and comfort learning new software
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A professional, reliable, and long-term approach to employment
Qualifications That Are Considered an Asset
- Optical, eyewear, retail, or healthcare experience
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Experience handling confidential information
- Medical Office Assistant (MOA) certification
- Bilingual in English and French and/or English and Arabic
