About The Insignia Hotel
The Insignia Hotel is a boutique hotel in the heart of Sarnia and proudly part of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio, known for warm, polished service and memorable events. From intimate gatherings to full ballroom functions, our catering and events team creates experiences guests remember. We are a diverse, welcoming workplace where every team member is valued — and we are growing our events team for the season ahead.
The Role
As our Catering & Events Assistant, you'll be at the heart of the action — helping set the stage for weddings, meetings, banquets and special events, and making sure every function runs smoothly from set-up to send-off. It's a hands-on, fast-paced role perfect for someone who loves hospitality, takes pride in the details, and enjoys being part of a close-knit team. You'll work alongside our food & beverage and sales leaders and gain broad exposure to hotel events operations.
This is also a rare opportunity to build your career with a globally recognized name. As a Tribute Portfolio hotel by Marriott, you'll gain hands-on experience with Marriott's renowned brand standards and operating systems, and you'll learn directly from a highly experienced and knowledgeable leadership team — invaluable training and mentorship to carry throughout your hospitality career.
What You'll Do
● Set up, reset and tear down event spaces — tables, linens, place settings, staging and audio-visual needs;
● Support food and beverage service during functions to Insignia's service standards;
● Help prepare banquet event orders and function details with the sales and F&B teams;
● Welcome and assist guests, clients and vendors with courtesy and professionalism;
● Keep event equipment and inventory clean, organized and safely handled; and
● Pitch in wherever the team needs you to make each event a success.
What We're Looking For
● A positive, guest-first attitude and a strong work ethic;
● Full availability to work a variable schedule, including days, evenings and weekends (an essential requirement of this role);
● Ability to be on your feet for extended periods and to lift and move event equipment (up to 35 lbs);
● A valid Smart Serve certification (required);
● Reliability, teamwork and clear, friendly communication;
● Previous hospitality, banquet, catering or customer-service experience is an asset, but not required — we're happy to train the right person; and
● Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
What We Offer
● A supportive, inclusive team and hands-on experience in hotel events;
● Hands-on training in Marriott brand standards and systems, plus mentorship from a seasoned leadership team;
● Hourly pay from Ontario minimum wage up to $20.00, based on experience;
● A varied, energizing role where no two events are the same; and
● The potential for the seasonal position to become permanent beyond March 2027, at the hotel's discretion.
