About MacGregors

MacGregors Industrial Group was formed in 1976 as MacGregor’s Custom Machining Ltd. A family owned and operated business, MacGregors has grown and diversified their products and service offering to include a full suite of manufacturing, distribution, repair, and construction services to meet the needs of their growing client base. MacGregors is in rural Nova Scotia with an aggressive growth strategy to solidify their position as a leader in Atlantic Canadian industry.

Continued growth and expansions have resulted in the need for a full-time Industrial Mechanic based out of MacGregors facility in New Glasgow, NS. The primary location of work will be on internal projects, however depending on active projects and client requirements, candidate should be prepared to work in various locations throughout the Atlantic Provinces for short term durations.

Priority objectives:

Develop, manage, and perform against an internal maintenance and repair system for all production equipment and field equipment. Specifically, fabrication and machine shop equipment, industrial facility maintenance, mobile equipment, and industrial tooling.
Complete projects for external clients from start to finish with a high degree of precision, quality, and workmanship in a timely manner. Specifically, industrial hydraulic repairs, rotating equipment, heavy equipment repairs and industrial assembly.
Be a leader and subject matter expert on preventative maintenance, industrial mechanics, and facilities services.

Specific roles and responsibilities

Be a vital team member on offsite projects at client facilities on an as needed basis for work such as Diagnosing and repairing different types of rotating and conveying equipment, including pumps, elevators, screw conveyors, belting, material handling, and centrifuges and hydro generators
Lead the completion of all required internal preventative maintenance and general repairs on fabrication and machine shop equipment such as welders, lathes, mills, CNC machining centers, plasma table, forklifts, trailers, compressors, bandsaws, etc. with the support of internal staff.
Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions
Oversee the staging and preparation of tools and equipment from internal inventory for our field crews as they prepare for maintenance shutdowns or long-term projects.
Complete basic facilities maintenance tasks such as overhead door maintenance, HVAC system maintenance, storage, and racking installations, etc.
Ensure safe work practices are in place on all projects & continuously look for methods to improve MacGregors safety culture.

Expectations

Be an independent self-starter, requiring little supervision to complete with competency the roles and responsibilities of the position.
Develop productive working relationships with other key personnel.
Available to work 40+ hours per week.
Be a team player and be adaptive to the needs of the organization
The ability to travel to work locations as required with reasonable notice.
Continually maintain and develop technical knowledge to perform effectively and adapt to changes in the workplace.

Key skills, capabilities, and abilities

Minimum 5 years’ experience as an industrial mechanic/millwright at an industrial facility
Formal education in industrial mechanics, heavy duty, and/or machining considered an asset
Competent with the operation of hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks, and tractors
Familiarity with and competency using Microsoft Office programs, scheduling software, and other basic computer functions
Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.
Valid Driver’s license.
Experience with welding, fabrication and/or machining will be an asset.
