Job Overview

Position Overview

Express Employment Professionals is recruiting on behalf of a well established company in the construction and industrial services sector.

Our client is seeking a CPA designated accounting professional to join the organization as a Junior Controller or Controller. This is a hands on leadership position with the opportunity to work directly with the President and become a trusted member of the senior leadership team.

The successful candidate will oversee accounting and financial reporting for a group of related companies, supervise an experienced accounting and administration team, and provide financial guidance that supports business growth, risk management, and operational improvement.

This position is best suited to someone seeking long term stability, professional growth, and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to an established organization.

Key Responsibilities

Manage full-cycle accounting for a group of related companies
Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements
Lead month end and year end closing processes
Coordinate year-end reporting and tax preparation with external accountants
Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and working capital
Develop management dashboards, financial reports, and key performance indicators
Review financial performance and provide recommendations to the President
Review and monitor the company business plan with the President
Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial processes
Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Supervise, mentor, and support an accounting and administration team of 3 to 4 employees
Manage relationships with banks, external accountants, lawyers, insurance providers, government agencies, and other professional advisors
Support corporate administration, risk management, tax planning, and shareholder reporting
Assist with strategic planning, business growth, ownership planning, and future exit strategy discussions
Evaluate accounting systems, ERP platforms, and technology improvements
Use artificial intelligence tools and other technologies to improve efficiency and reporting

Qualifications

Canadian CPA designation is required
Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
Experience as an Assistant Controller, Controller, Senior Accountant, or in a comparable senior accounting role
Strong full-cycle accounting experience involving multiple companies or legal entities
Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and financial reporting requirements
Experience preparing financial statements and completing month end and year end close
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
Experience working directly with external accountants, banks, lawyers, insurance providers, and auditors
Experience supervising or mentoring accounting and administration employees
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Experience working with ERP systems
Experience using QuickBooks Pro, including Contractor and Job Costing, is strongly preferred
Experience with accounting system conversions, implementations, or process improvements is an asset
Construction, drilling, engineering, industrial services, or project-based accounting experience is considered an asset
Professional proficiency in spoken and written English is required
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
Must be able to work onsite in Abbotsford, British Columbia
