Full job description

Description

The Department of Medical Genetics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Trial Assistant. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Pharmacogenetic-Guided Antidepressant Prescribing (PGx-GAP) is a randomized controlled trial being conducted across Western Canada. The trial is testing the efficacy of pharmacogenetic-guided antidepressant prescribing to improve outcomes for adolescents with anxiety and/or depression.

The primary location of work is the University of Calgary, Foothills Campus, with the opportunity to occasionally work remotely.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Acquire an understanding of the trial scope, aims, deliverables, timelines and activities
Work with the Trial Leads to determine priority activities and tasks
Conduct day-to-day trial activities in accordance with the trial protocol, including but not limited to:
- screening, recruitment and retention activities with adolescents and their caregivers
- data management
- in-person physician and clinic engagement in the Calgary area
- adverse events documentation and communication
- research ethics board reporting and amendments
Provide information and support developing various reports, including updates for the trial's steering committee, data safety monitoring board, and sponsors

Qualifications / Requirements:

Undergraduate degree in a health science discipline, Master's degree or additional post-secondary training an asset but not required
Minimum 2 years of experience in clinical research, preferably in pediatrics
Clinical research training including Good Clinical Practice and TCPS-2 certifications, or willingness to obtain
Knowledge of university policies related to research is required, including research ethics
Experience working with adolescents who have mental health conditions, and their families/caregivers
Knowledge or interest in pharmacogenetics and/or mental health is an asset
Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office applications and data management systems (e.g., REDCap)
Knowledge of university research systems including IRISS, PeopleSoft, OnCore and others, or willingness to learn
Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills including a high level of comfort interacting with adolescents and their caregivers
Strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to prioritize activities. The ability to multi-task with ease and efficiency and work in a dynamic environment is required
