HGC currently has an opportunity available for an experienced Civil Engineer to come join our growing team! We are looking for someone with 8+ years’ experience in the design, management and construction of infrastructure for the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate will bring experience and knowledge in the design and construction of civil infrastructure such as site grading, foundations and piles, water storage and infrastructure, containment ponds, and related projects in support of industrial development, with a preference for specific Oil and Gas industry experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Leadership:
· Oversee the planning, design, and execution of the civil engineering component of industrial projects, including oilfield waste management facilities, such as engineered containment ponds, produced water ponds, hydrovac facilities, lagoons and landfills, water management infrastructure, batteries, tanks, compressor and pumping stations, drill pads and associated works.
Technical Expertise:
· Collaborate and lead HGC’s cross-functional multiple disciplinary teams including, hydrogeologists, geotechnical engineers, biologists, and construction managers.
· Provide senior technical support to EITs and juniors completing field QA/QC through construction projects (i.e., earthworks, soil QA/QV, piping and geosynthetic containment system installation).
· Conduct site assessments and engineering analyses to ensure optimal system performance and innovation in design solutions.
Regulatory Compliance:
· Ensure all projects adhere to the applicable Provincial and Federal Regulations, including Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) guidelines, Directive 58, Directive 55, Water Act, and Management of Saline Fluid guidelines.
Team Development:
· Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and project teams, fostering growth and maintaining high-quality work standards.
· Collaborate with peers to find creative solutions and provide value to clients.
· Provide office-based technical support to EITs and staff completing field QA/QC through construction projects (i.e., earthworks, soil QA/QC, and geosynthetic containment system installation).
Quality Assurance:
· Manage project documentation, design reviews, and approvals, ensuring alignment with professional engineering standards in Alberta.
Problem Solving:
· Address and resolve technical challenges during project design and execution phases.
· Bring practical expertise to the role, be able to think outside of the box and collaborate on fit for purpose solutions.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in civil, geotechnical or environmental Engineering or a related field.
· Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with a focus on civil earthworks and infrastructure in support of industrial projects in Alberta, British Columbia, or similar environment.
· Experience with the civil design and grading of various structures such as containment ponds, surface water management, reservoirs, landfills, roads, dams, foundations, and miscellaneous earth fill infrastructure.
· Must hold Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and be registered with or immediately eligible to register with APEGA or EGBC.
· Demonstrated success in managing complex, multidisciplinary projects with a focus on timeliness and budget control.
· Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, with a collaborative approach to team and stakeholder engagement.
THE FOLLOWING WILL BE CONSIDERED AN ASSET:
· Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, coordinate and manage projects from concept through to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, client’s expectations, and quality standards are met.
· Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
· Experience with surface water grading, stormwater design, and wastewater treatment will be considered an asset.
This position will be based in our head office in downtown Calgary, Alberta. HGC offers a complete compensation package including competitive wages, benefits and mobile phone allowance. This position may require trips to the field, which can range from a single to multiple days.
