Canadian Geospatial is a hydrographic and geospatial services company specializing in advanced mapping and environmental monitoring. We use drones, LiDAR, sonar, GIS, and surveying technologies to support environmental, engineering, mining, and infrastructure projects across Western Canada.
Our work includes aerial mapping, bathymetric surveying, 3D terrain modelling, drone imaging, and geospatial data analysis for rivers, lakes, industrial ponds, shorelines, and infrastructure corridors.
Position Summary
The Geomatics Technician – Aerial Surveys will assist with drone-based data collection, field surveys, equipment preparation, and geospatial data organization. Working alongside experienced staff, the successful candidate will gain practical experience operating within professional UAV survey environments and supporting aerial mapping projects across Manitoba and Western Canada.
This role combines fieldwork, technology, and geospatial operations, providing exposure to drone surveying, LiDAR, GPS systems, remote sensing, and environmental monitoring projects.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Aerial Survey Operations
- Assist with drone survey preparation and field deployment
- Support UAV operations and equipment setup under the supervision of certified pilots
- Help establish and collect ground control points (GCPs)
- Record field observations, survey notes, and site conditions
- Assist with field logistics and safe work practices
Geospatial Data Collection
- Organize and transfer aerial imagery and survey datasets
- Assist with quality checks and validation of collected data
- Support integration of drone, LiDAR, GPS, and survey information
- Maintain organized digital project records and backups
Field & Technical Support
- Assist hydrographic, LiDAR, and geomatics crews on field projects
- Help maintain equipment, batteries, sensors, and field gear
- Support mapping and GIS tasks as required
- Participate in team meetings and project coordination activities
Qualifications
- Interest in drones, geomatics, surveying, GIS, environmental sciences, or remote sensing
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and field conditions
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Experience with drones, GIS, mapping software, or field surveying is considered an asset but is not required
- Valid driver’s licence is considered an asset
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with provincial legislation
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment
Pay: $23.00 per hour
