Reporting to the Foreman, the Topman is responsible for supporting safe and efficient trenching operations by coordinating material flow, assisting with pipe handling, and maintaining a well-organized work area around the excavation. Working closely with the Pipelayer and Equipment Operators, the Topman plays a critical role in ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are readily available, while always maintaining clear communication and site awareness.
How You’ll Add Value

Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment

Safely guide and support excavation activities from ground level

Assist with loading, unloading, and staging of pipe, fittings, and materials

Support rigging, hoisting, and lowering of pipe, manholes, and concrete structures

Maintain clear communication with the Pipelayer and equipment operators

Ensure tools, materials, and equipment are organized and accessible to the crew

Monitor trench conditions from above and maintain awareness of site hazards

Safely expose and work around live utilities

Use hand and power tools to support underground utility installation

Perform general labour duties to support trenching and pipe installation activities
What You Bring
-
2+ years of experience in civil construction or underground utility work
-
Previous experience working around trenching and excavation operations is an asset
-
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
-
Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and Fit for Work Testing will be required.
