Accounting Assistant

Reports To: Accountant Position Type: Full-Time

Hours of Work: 5 days per week (37.5 hours per week)

Business Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Location: Red Deer, Alberta office

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will also support general office duties, acting as a receptionist, answering the switchboard, greeting visitors, preparing meeting spaces, and handling basic clerical tasks.

This is a collaborative position that requires attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and a proactive approach to supporting various departments and various external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting

· Handle full-cycle accounts payable and receivable functions.

· Process transactions in multiple currencies.

· Review and process expense reports, invoices, and other financial documents.

· Code, batch, enter, verify, and reconcile transactions related to accounts payable, receivable, purchase orders, cheques, invoices, and bank statements.

· Provide backup documentation for accounting entries and audit accounts for timely payments.

· Prepare periodic or cost-related financial reports.

· Manage inter-company transactions across multiple entities and currencies.

Administrative

· Greet and assist customers, vendors, and guests as the primary receptionist.

· Perform general clerical duties, including email management, filing, scanning, and photocopying.

· Handle incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence.

· Process credit card payments

· Maintains an inventory and orders necessary office supplies

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

· Certificate or Diploma Business Administration, Accounting or Bookkeeping

· Experience in Customer Service

· Minimum 2+ years working experience in accounting required

Skills & Competencies

· In-depth knowledge of accounting practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also collaborating effectively with team members.

· Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

· Positive, professional attitude and high level of confidentiality.

· Proficiency in MS Office suite of products and QuickBooks and/or Sage 50.

· Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.

· Comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines.

· Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.

· Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.

· Effective communication skills at all levels within the organization.

· Committed to maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and compliance with company and legislative regulations.
