Position Conditions: This is a full-time position, of 36.25 hours per week. This position is not part of a collective agreement and is open to all interested parties. The City of Brandon reserves the right to underfill this position.
The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.

Rate of Pay: $94,747.85 - $102,227.18 (2026 Rates)

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator lead the development and advancement of a positive, proactive safety culture across the corporation by building relationships, engaging employees and leaders at all levels, promoting shared accountability, and fostering a workplace where health and safety is integrated into daily operations and decision-making.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the development and communication of a corporate safety philosophy that promotes and supports a safe and healthy workplace;
- Directly supervises and provides leadership to Safety staff, including assigning work, establishing priorities, coaching and mentoring employees, managing performance, and supporting professional growth to ensure effective and consistent service delivery.
- Leads corporate safety initiatives and change management efforts that strengthen employee engagement, increase safety awareness, and improve overall corporate safety performance.
- Ensures all areas of the corporation are kept up to date on relevant changes to Manitoba’s Safety and Health Legislation;
- Assists supervisors to ensure compliance with applicable Legislations;
- Provides coaching, guidance, and practical support to supervisors and managers to strengthen safety leadership competencies, accountability, and consistent application of safety programs and practices
- Provides effective Corporate Safety and Health training;
- Ensures that best practices are employed so that equipment, materials and protective devices are maintained in accordance with safety and health regulations;
- Coordinates safety audit programs;
- Conducts accident/incident investigations;
- Coordinates the Workers Compensation Board (WCB) program including injury reporting, claim administration, return-to-work planning, workplace accommodation, and communication with WCB, employees, supervisors, healthcare providers, and union representatives.
- Monitors claim activity and costs, ensure compliance with legislative requirements, maintain related records, analyze trends, and recommend strategies to support employee recovery, reduce organizational risk, and promote safe and timely return to work.
- Work with employees, healthcare providers and management to develop Individualized Accommodation Plans and ensure alignment with accessibility standards and employee’s abilities
- Facilitate communication between an employee, their supervisor, and the WCB, where necessary
- Prepares and presents accurate, timely, and comprehensive safety reports to management, Joint Health and Safety Committees, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders, including analysis of incidents, injuries, WCB claims, inspections, training activities, compliance measures, and emerging trends, together with recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Analyzes corporate safety statistics and makes necessary recommendations;
- Promotes employee participation in safety initiatives and encourages open communication, hazard reporting, and collaborative problem-solving to improve workplace safety outcomes.
- Establishes strong working relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, union representatives, and Joint Workplace Safety and Health Committees through regular engagement, visible presence at worksites, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Acts as a resource to the Joint Workplace Safety and Health Committee and all other safety sub-committees.

MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12, G.E.D., C.A.E.C. or Mature High School Diploma;
- Completion of an accredited Occupational Safety and Health Program;
- A minimum of five (5) years’ combined experience in the field of Workplace Safety and Health, Program Development, and Training.
- Hold and maintain a valid Intermediate/Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification;
- Hold and maintain a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver’s license.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory or people leadership experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated progressive experience leading corporate health and safety programs in a unionized environment.
- Experience developing safety culture initiatives, employee engagement strategies, and leadership-based safety programs.
WORK CONDITIONS
The OSH Coordinator works independently and in a team environment.
- Wide variety of tasks requiring ability to manage multiple projects and make independent decisions (daily);
- Works in a shared and consultative manner with other employees (daily);
- Self motivated and quality driven to perform independent projects (daily);
- Goals with objectives are used for performance management (annually);
- Responsible to the Director of Human Resources.
