This role performs a broad range of carpentry, renovation, repair, and preventive maintenance tasks while coordinating specialized trades when work falls outside the position’s scope.

Job Summary
Working collaboratively with operations and as part of an independent service line, the Carpenter will complete commercial construction repairs, renovations, maintenance, and small building projects based on client requirements, work orders, blueprints, and schematics.
The successful candidate will estimate repair and replacement costs, determine labour and trade requirements, perform general carpentry and minor building-system repairs, maintain accurate job records, and help ensure client facilities are protected and restored upon completion of the work.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare estimates for repair and replacement work based on client scopes, blueprints, and schematics, and determine internal or external labour requirements.
- Perform commercial carpentry, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair work involving doors, windows, framing, floors, walls, ceilings, partitions, drywall, finishes, hardware, floor coverings, minor additions, and minor roofing repairs.
- Troubleshoot and complete minor repairs to electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, and related building components where formal trade licensing is not required.
- Coordinate and schedule qualified trades for repairs or maintenance work that falls outside the scope of the position.
- Protect client property during construction and maintenance activities and restore offices, work areas, and facilities to their original condition when work is complete.
- Maintain accurate records of labour, materials, and repair costs for job tracking and invoicing.
- Inspect, maintain, and safely operate tools and equipment, reporting or returning damaged equipment for repair or replacement.
- Follow applicable safety, environmental, hazardous-material, and waste-disposal requirements while using appropriate personal protective equipment and reporting incidents.
- Maintain professional, respectful, and service-focused relationships with clients, team members, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience in commercial construction and general carpentry.
- Demonstrated ability to complete framing, drywall, finishing, exterior work, and minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Knowledge of construction and building-maintenance methods, materials, fixtures, tools, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of applicable building codes, occupational hazards, and construction safety precautions.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, client requirements, blueprints, schematics, procedures, and technical instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, time-management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with a strong commitment to customer service and professional conflict resolution.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Flexibility to work overtime and travel to project sites as required.
- Ability to meet client pre-access requirements.
- Ability to perform the physical duties of the position, including bending, lifting, kneeling, climbing, and twisting, and to successfully complete a physical demands assessment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical training in construction.
- AEC, DEP, Skilled Trade Certificate, or equivalent construction-related credential.
- Previous experience with HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems.
Work Environment and Schedule
This is a full-time, field-based position involving work at active commercial construction sites and occupied client facilities. Work may be completed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to changing weather conditions, construction noise, dust, uneven surfaces, and active equipment.
The role requires regular use of hand and power tools and may involve standing for extended periods, lifting materials, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, and working in restricted areas. Overtime, schedule flexibility, and travel to project sites may be required based on client and operational needs.
