The Data Analyst is a professional role within TCA that supports evidence-based, data-driven trauma care across Alberta. Reporting to the Program Lead, TCA, the primary responsibility of this position is the identification, abstraction, validation, and management of trauma patient data within the Alberta Trauma Registry. The Data Analyst independently reviews Electronic Health Records to identify patients meeting the Alberta Trauma Registry inclusion criteria. A significant component of the role involves reviewing clinical documentation and abstracting patient information from medical records in accordance with registry standards and data definitions. The Data Analyst ensures the quality, accuracy, completeness, and integrity of data entered into the registry. The role applies knowledge of trauma definitions, registry standards, and the Alberta Trauma System to maintain a high-quality provincial trauma dataset. In addition to registry abstraction activities, the Data Analyst develops and delivers standard and ad hoc reports, including Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) submissions, annual site reports, and data requests. The position collaborates with analysts, clinicians, researchers, and program partners to support data quality initiatives, reporting requirements, quality improvement activities, research projects, and program planning. The Data Analyst provides accurate and timely information to support decision-making and continuous improvement across Alberta's trauma system. Required Qualifications:
A post-secondary diploma or degree in a healthcare, health sciences, information management, or related field. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a health information, clinical registry, data analytics, quality improvement, research, or related healthcare environment is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience with clinical data abstraction, chart review, data validation, and application of data standards within a registry, quality improvement, research, or health information environment. Demonstrated ability to work with complex datasets while ensuring data quality, accuracy, and integrity. Knowledge of data management principles, reporting methodologies, and performance measurement. Experience developing standard and ad hoc reports for clinical, operational, quality improvement, or research purposes. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify data issues and support practical solutions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information to a variety of audiences. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the Alberta Trauma Registry. Experience supporting TQIP reporting or trauma quality initiatives. Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Certification and/or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) designation. Experience working within a provincial healthcare system, clinical registry, or health information environment. Knowledge of the Alberta Trauma System and trauma performance improvement processes would be considered an asset.
