We're hiring an Accounting Manager to lead the finance function at Found Spaces.
This is not a transactional accounting seat. It's a leadership-level role with full ownership of the financial integrity of the company. You'll partner directly with the founder and the Director of Operations on the financial direction of the business, lead a small team, and serve owners and tenants with the care our brand is built on.
If you're an experienced accountant who's been doing the work cleanly inside someone else's structure and you're ready to own a function instead of supporting one, this is for you.
About Found Spaces
We're a Hamilton-based property management company building the kind of operation the industry doesn't usually deliver -premium service, real standards, and a team that holds itself accountable. We manage residential properties on behalf of owners across Hamilton and the surrounding region.
We operate on systems and leverage, not on busyness. We're small enough that every seat matters and big enough that the work is real. The bar is high and we don't apologise for that.
The role
The Accounting Manager owns the financial integrity of Found Spaces. The seat covers nine areas of responsibility:
- Financial accuracy and compliance across all entities. Audit-readiness at all times. Accuracy is non-negotiable.
- Trust accounting and client funds -tenant deposits, rent receipts, owner funds, provincial trust compliance. This is a zero-tolerance area.
- Financial reporting and transparency -owner statements, leadership reporting, cash flow forecasting, financial intelligence that informs decisions. Leadership should never be surprised by the numbers.
- Accounts payable and receivable oversight -vendor payments, owner payouts, payroll for staff and VAs, tenant receivables, escalation of delinquency risks.
- Budgeting and financial controls - building and monitoring budgets, flagging variances early, recommending controls. You don't just report numbers. You interpret them.
- Systems and process ownership - QuickBooks, Buildium, accounting integrations, chart of accounts, accounting SOPs, training of accounting staff.
- Team leadership and development -currently a bookkeeper and a rent/customer service coordinator. You lead people, not just numbers.
- Risk identification and escalation -financial, compliance, and cash flow risks identified early and escalated with facts and options. Silence is not acceptable in this role.
- Cross-department collaboration -partnering with property management on rent and arrears, leasing on deposits and move-ins, and leadership on forecasting and strategy.
You'll also serve as a primary point of contact for owners and tenants on financial questions. The seat is customer-facing in a way pure accounting roles aren't. Care, professionalism, and clear communication matter as much as the numbers.
Who you are
You're an experienced accountant with strong fundamentals and a track record of clean work. You may have been doing transactional accounting at a larger company and you're ready for the scope and ownership a leadership-level seat brings.
What we're looking for, specifically:
- 5+ years of accounting or finance experience, with at least 2 years in a role where you owned a function or led others. Property management or real estate accounting experience is a significant asset but not required -we can teach you Buildium and the property management context.
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is an asset, not a requirement.
- Strong fluency in QuickBooks. Familiarity with Buildium is an asset. Comfort with Google Workspace (especially Sheets), ClickUp, and other modern operating tools.
- Comfort with AI tools and automation. We use Apps Script automations, AI-powered workflow tools, and we're constantly looking for ways to do the work more efficiently. We need someone who sees technology as leverage, not as a threat.
- Detail-orientation as a personality trait, not just a skill. The kind of person who catches what others miss -not because they're told to look, but because noticing is how they're wired.
- Customer service instincts. The seat interacts with owners and tenants on real money issues. You need to be the kind of person who answers calls, returns emails, resolves issues, and represents Found Spaces with the care we're known for.
- Genuine want for a leadership seat. Not just a job. You want to be at the table, contribute to strategy, lead a team, and grow with the company.
Who this isn't for
If you're looking for a quiet seat behind the books, this isn't it.
If you're a transactional accountant who wants to be told what to do and never own the function, this isn't it.
If “that's not my job” is part of your vocabulary, this isn't it.
If AI and automation make you nervous, this isn't it.
We'd rather have the seat sit empty for a few more weeks than fill it with someone who's not the right fit.
What we offer
- $75,000 –$95,000 base salary, based on experience and the specific scope you bring to the seat.
- A leadership-level role with real ownership of the financial function.
- Direct partnership with the founder and the Director of Operations on the strategic direction of the business.
- A small team to lead and develop -a bookkeeper and a rent/customer service coordinator.
- Modern tech stack -QuickBooks, Buildium, ClickUp, Apps Script automations, AI workflow tools. We invest in tools that make the work better.
- Direct visibility into how a growing property management company operates from the top, with the opportunity to grow as we grow.
- A team that holds itself to high standards and is honest with each other. No politics. No backchannel. Real conversations.
Location and work arrangement
This is an in-person role based in Hamilton for the first 90 days. After that, a hybrid arrangement is available with the expectation of presence for leadership meetings, team collaboration, and customer-facing days.
The first 90 days are about building trust, learning the business, and understanding the systems. Once that foundation is set, we work flexibly around the actual demands of the role and life.

Applications reviewed as they arrive. We're hiring for a start date in July with training overlap, so we're moving on this.
