About Us:

The Chatham Community Hope Centre is a faith-rooted, registered charitable organization serving communities by meeting urgent needs and supporting long-term transformation. Open 365 days a year, the Hope Centre provides nightly hot meals, daytime food and hygiene supports, and wraparound care for individuals facing poverty, homelessness, and addiction. Guided by Christian values and a commitment to dignity, accountability, and compassion, the Centre partners with the community to help people move from crisis toward stability, healing, and renewed purpose.

Position Summary:

The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all food service operations at the Chatham Community Hope Centre, including the daily meal program, food pantry, kitchen operations, food inventory, and food donations. This position ensures that meals and pantry services are delivered safely, efficiently, and with dignity while providing day-to-day leadership and support to volunteers working within food service programs.

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Food Services Coordinator works closely with the Emergency Needs Coordinator to ensure a smooth transition between daytime food preparation and evening Drop-In operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and coordinate daily meal preparation, menu planning, and food production.
Oversee kitchen operations, ensuring food safety, sanitation, and compliance with public health standards.
Manage the Centre's referral-based food pantry, including appointments, food distribution, and inventory.
Receive, organize, store, and distribute donated food and supplies.
Monitor food inventory, rotate stock, reduce waste, and identify purchasing needs.
Purchase food and kitchen supplies within approved budgets.
Maintain accurate records for pantry usage, inventory, food donations, purchasing, and food safety.
Prepare reports on meals served, pantry activity, inventory, and food donations.
Provide day-to-day operational leadership and guidance to volunteers working in the kitchen, pantry, and food inventory areas.
Build positive relationships with food donors, suppliers, and community partners.
Identify opportunities to improve food programs, increase efficiency, and reduce waste.
Participate in staff meetings, organizational events, and other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in food service, commercial kitchens, community food programs, or a related field.
Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, inventory management, and meal planning.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Experience coordinating volunteers or teams is considered an asset.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff and volunteers.
Demonstrated compassion and the ability to work respectfully with individuals experiencing poverty, homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, and food insecurity.
Passion for serving through a Christ-centred lens.
Ability to handle escalated situations with composure and de-escalation techniques.

What we offer:

Annual Salary of $50,000.
Health Benefits.

Requirements:

40-50 hours per week.
Occasional travel between Leamington and Chatham sites may be required.
Hours will include some evenings and weekends as required.
Successful Vulnerable Sector Check.
Safe Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain).
Class G drivers license.
