Chinook Feeders (2024) is currently seeking a reliable and hardworking Barn Processing Employee to join our cattle feedlot team.
Position Overview:
This role involves assisting with daily processing tasks in the barn, including the care, handling, and management of cattle. The ideal candidate is attentive, safety-conscious, and able to work efficiently in a physically demanding environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cattle Handling & Processing: Assist in tagging, weighing, vaccinating, and administering treatments to cattle following standard protocols.
- Animal Care: Monitor cattle for signs of illness, injury, or distress, and report concerns to supervisors or veterinarians.
- Facility Maintenance: Maintain clean and organized barns, pens, and work areas; clean and sanitize equipment, chutes, and tools.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate feedlot equipment, including chutes, gates, and other processing tools.
- Record Keeping: Assist in documenting cattle treatments, processing activities, and health records accurately.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all feedlot safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and low-stress cattle handling practices.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with barn crew, pen riders, and feedlot staff to ensure smooth operations and animal welfare.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a cattle feedlot or livestock processing environment is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of cattle health, handling, and processing procedures.
- Physical stamina to perform labor-intensive tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with operating farm equipment is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor and indoor work in all weather conditions.
- Physically demanding environment with repetitive tasks and heavy lifting.
- Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.
