Responsibilities
- Perform grade checking and verification using levels, lasers, and grade stakes to ensure accurate elevations and alignment

Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and pipe profiles for underground servicing installation

Establish and maintain grades for excavation, bedding, and pipe installation
-
Install underground utilities including storm, sanitary, and watermain systems
-
Lay, align, and join pipe sections (PVC, concrete, HDPE, ductile iron) to required line and grade
-
Prepare trenches, including bedding and backfill, in accordance with project specifications
-
Direct and assist equipment operators during excavation, trenching, and backfilling operations
-
Ensure proper compaction and installation of materials to meet engineering standards

Locate and identify existing underground utilities and ensure safe excavation practices
-
Work closely with survey crews, supervisors, and inspectors to maintain accuracy and tolerances

Inspect pipe installation to ensure quality, line, and grade compliance
-
Safely operate tools and equipment including lasers, pipe lasers, compactors, and hand tools

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including trench safety and shoring practices

Follow all company health and safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times

Support labourers and junior crew members as needed

Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, specifically in grading and underground pipe installation

Proven experience as a Grademan and/or Pipe Layer on municipal or infrastructure projects

Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, profiles, and grade stakes

Solid understanding of elevations, slopes, and grade control for underground services

Experience installing storm, sanitary, and watermain systems

Knowledge of trenching, shoring, and excavation safety requirements

Proficient with layout equipment including lasers and pipe lasers
-
Experience working around heavy equipment and directing operators safely

Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality
