Service Supervisor -
9 Month Contract
The York Region Children’s Aid Society (YRCAS) is a non-profit community organization legally mandated to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect. SUMMARY OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Manager and/or Director, the Service Supervisor provides clinical and administrative leadership to ensure high-quality, equitable, and compliant service delivery in alignment with the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Ministry standards, and agency policies. The role oversees service coordination, monitors outcomes, and contributes to continuous improvement, while maintaining a systems-level understanding of how team practices align with broader organizational priorities and the critical role of supervisors within.
NATURE OF POSITION

Supervise, support, and coach frontline staff to deliver effective, equitable, and child-centered services.

Build staff capacity through ongoing supervision, reflective practice, and skill development aligned with the agency’s Signs of Safety framework and Equity principles.

Provide clinical direction and support sound analysis and decision making on case assessment, planning, and intervention, including complex and crisis situations.

Review and monitor casework to ensure quality, accountability and alignment with best practice, legislation, and agency standards.

Apply strong emotional intelligence to foster trust, psychological safety, and constructive team culture, while effectively navigating conflict and performance concerns.

Use critical thinking and problem-solving to address service challenges, balance competing priorities, and support quality outcomes for children and families

Monitor service outcomes, evaluate effectiveness, and implement improvements to service delivery.

Assign and manage workload to ensure effective use of resources and timely service.

Participate in management and supervisory leadership structures, contributing to planning, decision-making, and organizational priorities.

Lead and support change management, service development initiatives, and special projects.

Foster collaborative relationships across teams, programs and with community partners to support coordinated, purposeful and responsive service delivery.

Oversee staff performance, including recruitment, orientation, supervision, evaluation, and professional development.

Communicate agency priorities and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.

Represent the agency on committees and working groups, and contribute to broader organizational initiatives.

Provide rotational after-hours supervisory support.

Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (Master’s Degree is preferred) from a university of recognized standing, combined with a minimum of three years’ frontline child welfare experiences or bachelor’s degree in a related social service area from a university of recognized standing, combined with a minimum of five years’ frontline child welfare experience.
Knowledge and Skills

Thorough knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, relevant legislation, regulations, and Ministry standards, with the ability to apply these within practice and supervision.

Strong knowledge and demonstrated application of the Signs of Safety framework, with the ability to integrate equity principles into assessment, decision-making, and service delivery.

Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to coach, mentor, and develop staff capacity through reflective supervision, skill-building, facilitating critical thinking and slow, analytical decision-making rather than solution-driven direction.

Demonstrated ability to contribute as an engaged member of the broader leadership team by working collaboratively across programs and departments, aligning decisions with organizational priorities, and supporting a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Skilled in balancing team-specific needs with agency wide objectives, fostering positive working relationships, and contributing to strategic planning, change management, and organizational decision-making.

Highly developed emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, empathy, and the ability to foster psychologically safe, inclusive, and accountable team environments.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships with community partners and stakeholders.

Demonstrated professional integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Supervisory or leadership training/experience is an asset.
-
Bilingualism (French and/or other languages) is an asset.
PAY GRADE: Non-Union Pay Grade 7 ($98,724.92 - $125,144.24)
HOURS OF WORK 33.75 hours per week
