About the Role
Walters Landscaping is looking for an experienced mechanic to manage and maintain our mixed fleet of trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, compact equipment, and small engine tools.
This is a hands-on shop role for someone who can work independently, diagnose problems, stay organized, and take ownership of keeping our equipment ready for the crews.
We are not looking for someone who needs constant direction. We need someone who can look at a problem, figure it out, and get it repaired properly.
What You’ll Be Working On
Our fleet and equipment includes:
- Heavy trucks, including tri-axle, tandem, and single-axle trucks
- Medium-duty trucks and support vehicles
- Heavy equipment, including excavators and wheel loaders
- Compact equipment, including skid steers and mini excavators
- Air float trailer and smaller trailers
- Landscape construction equipment
- Small engine tools and equipment
- Hydraulics, electrical, engines, brakes, general repairs, and maintenance
We do not operate snow plows or lawn maintenance mowers.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, compact equipment, and small engine tools
- Perform regular maintenance and inspections
- Keep the shop organized and running efficiently
- Track repairs, parts, tools, and equipment needs
- Order and manage parts as needed
- Prepare trucks and equipment for safety inspections
- Help reduce equipment downtime for the crews
- Plan winter maintenance while construction work slows down
- Take ownership of the overall condition of the fleet and shop
What We’re Looking For
The right person should have:
- Strong mechanical experience with trucks, trailers, equipment, and small engines
- Experience with heavy equipment and compact construction equipment
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently without constant direction
- Strong organization skills
- Own tools
- Valid driver’s licence
- Good communication skills
- Experience managing a shop or fleet is a strong asset
A 310T licence is not required, but it would be considered a strong asset. Experience and ability are also very important to us.
What We Offer
- $30–$50/hour based on experience
- Heated shop
- Organized yard and shop
- Steady work
- Monday to Friday schedule
- Variety of trucks, equipment, trailers, and tools to work on
- Freedom to manage the shop properly
- Family-owned company with direct communication
Who This Job Is Not For
This position is not a good fit for someone with little experience, limited diagnostic ability, or someone who needs to be told what to do throughout the day.
