We are seeking an exceptional Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide high-quality, private, live-in care to a client with higher support needs.
This is an opportunity for a compassionate, highly capable and experienced PSW who takes genuine pride in providing thoughtful, discreet and person-centred care. The ideal candidate will be warm, engaging and emotionally intelligent, with the ability to anticipate needs, think ahead and create a calm, supportive environment for both the client and family.
The successful candidate will become an important part of the client's care team and must be comfortable providing care in private residences and during extended travel.
POSITION DETAILS
Job Type: Full-Time, Live-In Position: Personal Support Worker (PSW) Location: Private home setting, with extended travel Travel: Ontario, United States and Harbour Island, Bahamas Travel Duration: Extended stays of approximately 2.5 months at a time may be required
ABOUT THE ROLE
The successful candidate will provide respectful, individualized care while promoting the client's independence, dignity, safety and quality of life.
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing mobility support and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming and personal hygiene
- Assisting with ambulation, transfers, repositioning and mobility
- Working safely with mobility aids and lift equipment
- Providing companionship and meaningful engagement
- Supporting clients during periods of illness, convalescence or increased care needs
- Preparing nutritious meals and accommodating established dietary requirements
- Assisting with feeding as required
- Providing medication reminders and other care activities within the PSW's authorized scope of practice and the client's established plan of care
- Performing permitted routine health-related duties in accordance with training, organizational policy and applicable Ontario requirements
- Performing light housekeeping related to the client's care, including laundry, dishes, tidying and making beds
- Accompanying the client to appointments, activities and outings as required
- Supporting a safe, organized and comfortable home environment
- Communicating appropriately with family members and the client's care team
- Recognizing changes in the client's condition and promptly reporting concerns in accordance with the plan of care and company procedures
- Maintaining confidentiality and respecting the client's privacy at all times
- Documenting care accurately and professionally
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification
- Valid CPR certification
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with older adults, preferably in private home care
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and/or dementia
- Experience providing palliative or end-of-life care
- Experience with clients requiring higher levels of mobility and personal care support
- Demonstrated ability to safely perform transfers, repositioning and mobility assistance
- Experience using mobility aids and/or mechanical lift equipment is an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong observational and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment within the PSW role and established care plan
- Valid driver's licence and demonstrated safe driving history
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must be physically capable of safely supporting a client with higher support needs.
This may include:
- Assisting with transfers and repositioning
- Supporting ambulation and mobility
- Working with mobility aids and lift equipment
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Bending, reaching and assisting with personal care
- Responding appropriately to unexpected changes in the client's mobility or care needs
- Training related to equipment and client-specific care procedures will be provided where required and where appropriate to the PSW's role.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position involves extended travel with the client/family, potentially including stays of approximately 2.5 months at a time within North America and the Carribean.
The successful candidate must be comfortable travelling internationally, adapting to different environments and maintaining a consistently high standard of professional care while away from the client's primaryresidence. International travel will be subject to applicable immigration, employment, travel-document and jurisdictional requirements.
