Commercial Exterior Painter — Facade & Signage (Year-Round)
$23–$30/hour · Full-time, permanent · Year-round · Overtime available
JOB SUMMARY
Canada Trade Signs is hiring an experienced commercial exterior painter to join our facade division. We build and install signage and facade systems across Ontario for retail, restaurant, franchise, and multi-site rollout clients.
The successful candidate will lead exterior coating work on commercial buildings — stucco, EIFS, ACM, and metal substrates — through the painting season, and transition to signage installation and shop work over the winter months. This is a permanent, year-round position with no seasonal layoff. Full training and certification in signage installation is provided at our cost.
We are looking for someone who takes prep seriously, works clean, and wants to build a second trade with a growing company.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Exterior Coating (April–October)
- Perform surface preparation including cleaning, sanding, patching, caulking, and masking on commercial exteriors
- Apply primers, coatings, and finish systems to stucco, EIFS, ACM, and metal substrates
- Work with Sherwin-Williams and comparable coating systems on warrantied projects, following manufacturer specifications for application conditions and film thickness
- Operate spray, roller, and brush equipment; maintain and clean equipment daily
- Assess substrate and weather conditions before mobilizing and report deficiencies before work begins
Signage Installation (November–March, training provided)
- Install channel letters, sign boxes, fascia signs, and facade panel systems
- Assist with layout, anchoring, and mounting hardware installation per approved drawings
- Support shop fabrication, finishing, and interior projects during winter months
Year-Round
- Operate boom and scissor lifts safely on occupied commercial sites
- Work from approved shop drawings and project specifications
- Complete photo documentation and closeout paperwork on every project
- Follow all site-specific and company health and safety requirements
- Travel across the GTA daily, with occasional overnight travel within Ontario (accommodation and per diem covered)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area on site and in the shop
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 3+ years in commercial or industrial exterior painting
- Demonstrated surface preparation skill — you understand prep determines the finish
- Working knowledge of coating systems and substrate preparation on stucco, EIFS, ACM, and metal
- Comfortable working at height
- Full G licence in good standing
- Available for scheduled overtime and the occasional Saturday when a project requires it
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work independently once briefed
Preferred (not required — we train and pay for certification)
- Working at Heights certification
- Boom and scissor lift tickets
- Airless or HVLP spray experience
- Signage or facade installation experience
- Red Seal 404A Painter & Decorator
- DZ licence

- $23–$30/hour based on demonstrated skill, reviewed at 90 days
