Status: Regular Part Time
Department: ICU/CCU
Program: Critical Care
Days and Nights - 12 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)
Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa
Wage Schedule: $28.980 - $30.290 per hour
CUPE: 2600001528 (subsequent)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Unit Clerk is responsible for: performing a wide variety of clerical duties including; maintaining patient charts; transcribing doctor's orders;facilitating the admission/discharge/transfer process; acting as a receptionist; maintaining a variety of statistical information for the unit; answering the telephone and taking accurate messages; calling in staff in accordance with the applicable collective agreements; assisting in coordinating staffing; inputting into the computer and writing reports; and performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Medical Office Administration Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience in a hospital clerical or medical office setting;
Previous experience transcribing doctor's orders;
Proven knowledge of medical terminology and good keyboarding skills (35 wpm) tested;
Proven knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (tested);
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and to demonstrate initiative;
Proven organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize them;
Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
Physically capable of performing the work including reaching, bending, pulling;
Proven ability to work productively in a busy environment with many interruptions and distractions;
Must have a satisfactory performance record;
Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in service education in this area
