Reporting to the Food and Beverage Manager, the Food and Beverage Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and operation of the Founders Room and Spike Bar. This position provides leadership, direction, training, and support to Food and Beverage employees while ensuring consistently high standards of service, cleanliness, safety, and member satisfaction. This position also focuses on club membership and overall guest satisfaction and would be an active floor presence during peak service times. We are looking for someone who truly enjoys the guest interaction piece and building relationships with our members & guests.
The Hospitality Supervisor serves as a leader, teacher, and role model for the team and is responsible for maintaining and enhancing service standards that reflect the values and reputation of The Derrick Golf and Winter Club. The position works closely with the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, Food and Beverage Manager, Executive Chef, and other departments to achieve departmental and Club wide goals and objectives.
1. Leadership and Team Supervision

Supervise and provide daily direction to employees working in the Founders Room and Spike Bar.

Provide leadership and direction through clear communication, accountability, and consistent follow up.

Act as a positive role model and demonstrate professional standards of conduct, appearance, and service.

Promote teamwork, collaboration, and two-way communication within the department.

Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, service standards, and employee performance.

Support the implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.

Address employee performance and conduct concerns in accordance with Club policies and Human Resources procedures.

Provide recommendations regarding hiring, promotion, discipline, and termination when appropriate, in consultation with management and Human Resources.
2. Training and Employee Development
-
Ensure all employees receive thorough training appropriate to their position and responsibilities.

Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback to employees.
-
Identify employee training needs and communicate opportunities for further development to management.

Support the development of a knowledgeable, professional, and service-focused team.
3. Scheduling and Staffing
-
Assistance in the preparation and maintain staff schedules for the Founders Room and Spike Bar in accordance with operational requirements.

Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained to support effective service and member expectations.

Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, and availability.
-
Communicate potential overtime concerns to the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager in a timely manner.

Ensure employees report to work appropriately dressed and in compliance with Club uniform and name-tag standards.

Assist with shift coverage and staffing adjustments as operational needs arise.
4. Food and Beverage Operations
-
Oversee the daily operation of the Founders Room, Spike Bar, and Sun Cafe during assigned shifts.

Ensure service standards are consistently maintained and reflect the expectations of The Derrick Club.

Monitor service levels and provide direction to staff during busy and high-volume periods.
-
Ensure employees are knowledgeable about food and beverage offerings and can appropriately communicate menu items to members.

Maintain a strong working relationship with the Executive Chef, Chef, and Kitchen team to ensure effective communication and coordination of service.

Monitor the presentation, organization, and overall readiness of service areas.
-
Identify and address operational issues promptly to minimize disruptions to service.

Support the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager and Food and Beverage Manager in achieving departmental objectives.
5. Member Relations and Service Excellence
-
Promote a welcoming, professional, and member-focused environment.
-
Ensure employees consistently provide courteous, attentive, and professional service.
-
Respond to members’ questions, concerns, and service issues in a timely and professional manner.
-
Escalate significant member concerns or complaints to the appropriate manager.
-
Seek opportunities to exceed reasonable member expectations and enhance the overall member experience.

Promote a culture of service excellence throughout the Food and Beverage department.
6. Inventory and Stock Control
-
Maintain appropriate inventory levels for the Founders Room and Spike Bar.
-
Monitor liquor, beverage, food, and other service-related inventory.
-
Maintain accurate records of liquor and stock transfers between areas.
-
Identify inventory discrepancies, shortages, or unusual usage and report them to management.
-
Assist with inventory counts and other stock-control procedures as required.
-
Ensure products are stored, handled, and organized appropriately.
7. Cleanliness, Maintenance, and Safety
-
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization throughout the Founders Room and Spike Bar.

Assign and monitor staff cleaning duties to ensure service areas, equipment, and workspaces are maintained to Club standards.

Ensure cleaning practices comply with applicable health, safety, and sanitation requirements.

Regularly inspect equipment and service areas for proper operation and condition.
-
Report equipment issues and arrange for repairs or service as required.
-
Submit maintenance work orders accurately and follow up to ensure required work is completed.

Promote a safe working environment and ensure employees follow applicable Club health and safety procedures.
8. Liquor Compliance and Policies
-
Ensure all liquor service is conducted in accordance with applicable Alberta liquor legislation and Club policies.

Ensure employees follow the Club's Liquor Service Policy and all applicable ProServe requirements.
-
Monitor responsible service practices and address non-compliance immediately.
-
Ensure proper procedures are followed for liquor storage, handling, service, and inventory control.

Maintain current knowledge of relevant liquor service requirements and communicate changes to staff as required.
9. Communication and Administration
-
Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, Food and Beverage Manager, Executive Chef, and other relevant departments.

Communicate operational concerns, staffing issues, member feedback, maintenance requirements, and other matters requiring management attention.

Maintain accurate records and documentation related to staffing, inventory, maintenance, and departmental operations.

Ensure important information is communicated to the appropriate employees in a timely manner.

Participate in departmental meetings and contribute ideas for operational improvements.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, Food and Beverage Manager, and Executive Chef.

Minimum of 3 years experience in the hospitality, food and beverage, restaurant, or service industry.
-
Previous experience in a private club, hotel, restaurant, or similar hospitality environment is considered an asset.

Hospitality, Food and Beverage, or related post-secondary education is considered an asset.

ProServe certification or the ability to obtain and maintain certification as required.
