Building & Maintenance Worker
Summer Student

This position serves the Facilities and Maintenance department in order to maintain a high level of service to the community. The successful candidate will strive to provide high quality maintenance and service work to the Edmonton Humane Society.
Building Maintenance
- Assist in handling basic repairs and maintenance
- Receive, and restock all areas with required supplies
- Assist the facilities crew with daily tasks
- Assist facilities crew in conducting routine inspections of premises and equipment
- Follow safe working practices and make appropriate use of related safety equipment as required
- Assist in monitoring inventory and reporting low supplies
- Assist with donation sorting and stock rotation
Grounds Keeping
- Safely operate a variety of standard power tools and equipment (lawn mower, electric hedge clipper, edger, tiller, etc.)
- Adjust, clean, and perform minor mechanical work on grounds equipment
Custodial & Administrative
- Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing debris from sidewalks and exterior of buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment
- Perform custodial activities under the direction of the Manager, Infrastructure (mopping, polishing, dusting)
- Assist in maintaining maintenance records and receipts, and ensure proper follow-up of all maintenance contracts as directed by the Manager of Infrastructure
- Other duties as assigned
- Completed a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in building maintenance operations would be considered an asset
- Experience with power and hand tools would be an asset
- Valid CPR/First Aid would be an asset
The ideal candidate possesses strong time management skills and can work effectively with little supervision, bringing a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and energy to their work each day. They should be physically capable of bending, stretching, sitting, and standing for long periods, as well as climbing ladders and working in congested spaces. Flexibility to work varying hours, including weekends, is essential, along with working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel). The candidate should also feel comfortable working in a building alongside various companion animals such as dogs, cats, and rabbits.

The Summer Student, Building & Maintenance Worker role is classified in Pay Band 1, with a pay range of $16.44- $17.50 per hour, commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and experience.
- Standard hours: 35 hours per week; however, this position is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill departmental responsibilities.
- Telecommuting or flexible work arrangements may be available for this role; details will be discussed during the hiring process.
- Flexibility may be required for evenings, weekends or special events.
