We are looking for a Program Manager, Nursing to join our management team under the direction of the Chair, Nursing.
The responsibilities of the Program Manager, Nursing, include but are not limited to:
St. Clair College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success. The School of Nursing requires a full-time Nursing Program Manager who will be responsible for working with the Chair, School of Nursing, program coordinators, faculty, clinical instructors and clinical partner sites to manage the clinical placements for the Collaborative BScN, Practical Nursing, and Personal Support Worker programs. This includes scheduling clinical placements; hiring, scheduling and supervising clinical instructors; developing & maintaining good relationships with clinical partners; and problem-solving clinical placement issues.
- Provides leadership and operational management of the clinical courses in the BScN, PN and PSW programs including hiring and assigning work to clinical and lab instructors.
- Oversees the mix of clinical placement staff assignments required each semester to best meet the needs of the program and student experience.
- Provides direct supervision to the clinical and lab instructors.
- Establishes effective communication and relationships with all academic program staff to collaboratively ensure the right placements are secured for the student’s program/level/course.
- Assists in problem-solving challenges/issues regarding students meeting objectives in the clinical experience.
- Conducts investigation of clinical concerns/issues, in conjunction with the Chair, School of Nursing, and develops/recommends action plans to address issues.
- Communicates regularly and participates in meetings with clinical placement partners, university, and college partners. Communicates updates or changes to faculty/clinical/lab instructors.
- Arranges hospital and agency orientations for new clinical teachers as needed.
- Continually seeks to build relationships with new agencies for placement opportunities.
- Arranges schedules for all clinical course placements with the Registrar’s office/scheduling in partnership with the program coordinators to maximize efficiencies and meet the needs of the programs.
- Oversees scheduling in conjunction with the Chair, School of Nursing as required.
- Ensures all regulatory requirements related to placements are adhered to.
- Oversees accreditation process in conjunction with the Chair, School of Nursing and Faculty.
- Follows up on clinical health and safety incidents ensuring incidents are tracked and trended. Recommends specific Health and Safety training as needed.
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:
The candidate must be actively registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and a BScN is preferred. A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in direct patient care in a clinical setting and, three to five years’ experience working in the role of a clinical teacher, is required. Knowledge and understanding of the nursing curriculum and programs are preferred. Managerial experience in the clinical practice setting will be considered an asset. Additional skills include excellent oral and written communications skills, strong interpersonal skills and a competent understanding of computer programs. The candidate must have a driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Some traveling within Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent will be required.
