Role Summary
The cook functions as an accountable member of the Dietary Department under supervision of the Head Cook and Dietary Manager. The cook oversees the kitchen in regards to the preparation and cooking of foods.

Qualifications

Journeyman (Red Seal) Certificate/Culinary Skills Certificate considered asset.
Grade XII or equivalent.
Must possess Canada Food Handlers Certificate.
Proven ability to organize food preparation and production and comply with standards and practices.
Ability to read and follow detailed recipes/instructions as required.
Minimum of 2 years experience cooking in a health care or high-volume kitchen considered an asset.
Knowledge of and experience with application of WHMIS 2015 (GHS), routine practices and infection control.
Ability to demonstrate good attendance.
Provide recent and clean Criminal & Vulnerable Sector record check.

Performance Requirements

Excellent Team player-ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Must be able to work independently and make decisions regarding menu changes, diet requests for residents, etc.
Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards; ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely.
Clean and sanitize cooking station daily; maintain the cleanliness of kitchen equipment such as ovens, kettles, mixers, and others to maintain safety and sanitation in the kitchen to meet legislative and organizational standards; responsible for the clear and correct labeling of excess food.
Operate machinery (Dietary).
Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.
Must be in good health and physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lifting, squatting, bending, standing, and walking.
Promotes and maintains positive communication and relationships among staff, residents, and the public.
