We are looking for an experienced Junior Mechanical Engineer / Technologist to join our team!
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer or Technologist, you will support the delivery of multidisciplinary industrial projects through mechanical design, field assessments, and engineering analysis. Working alongside experienced engineers and project teams, you will contribute to the development of practical engineering solutions for both new facilities and brownfield upgrades. Your responsibilities may include assisting with mechanical and piping system design, equipment evaluations, preparation of engineering deliverables, and ensuring designs align with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. This role offers opportunities to develop technical and project coordination skills while collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams. This position may be based in any of the Wave offices, but preference will be given to candidates based in Grande Prairie or Calgary.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Depending on experience and career aspirations, responsibilities may include the following within industrial and energy sector projects:
- Support the execution of mechanical engineering scope for multidisciplinary projects, including field reviews, design development, and construction support activities.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, field personnel, and internal disciplines to support project delivery and gain exposure to project coordination activities.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering deliverables, including calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and procurement documentation under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Support project planning and execution activities by contributing to project schedules, task tracking, and multidisciplinary coordination efforts.
- Participate in field assessments, site visits, constructability reviews, troubleshooting activities, and redline/as-built verification.
- Assist in the development and updating of engineering documents such as DBMs, PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, equipment specifications, datasheets, and technical reports.
- Contribute to the sizing, selection, and evaluation of rotating and static mechanical equipment with guidance from senior engineering staff.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to develop practical engineering solutions that meet project objectives, industry standards, and applicable codes.
- Support the review of engineering deliverables to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in technical development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and best practices.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- E.I.T. or P.Eng designation with APEGA or T.T./ C.Tech /C.E.T. designation with ASET.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or an accredited Engineering Technology Diploma in a related discipline.
- 2+ years of mechanical engineering experience within the industrial sector, preferably the oil & gas industry.
- Knowledge of piping systems, valves, fittings, pumps, compressors, and related rotating equipment; familiarity with piping specs & valve class tables.
- Exposure to project coordination or project management on small to mid-size, multidisciplinary projects.
- Exposure to field assessments of mechanical systems and drawing mark-ups for redlines and as-builts is considered an asset.
- Ability to support the coordination and execution of multidisciplinary engineering scopes within consulting or industrial project environments; related experience is considered an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple project priorities.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel for client meetings or site activities.
