Position Summary:
The Director, Distribution & Transportation, is responsible for leading and optimizing T&T Supermarket's distribution and transportation operations to ensure products are delivered efficiently and effectively across the network. Reporting to the Chief Production Officer, this role oversees logistics, transportation, and supplier performance to support business objectives and deliver exceptional service to stores and customers.
The Director balances service levels, cost efficiency, inventory productivity, food freshness, and operational reliability while driving continuous improvement across processes, systems, and partnerships. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, the Director helps strengthen distribution and transportation capabilities and supports T&T's ongoing growth and operational excellence.
Location: This position may be based in either Markham, Ontario, or Vancouver, British Columbia. Regular travel to T&T offices, distribution centres, stores, suppliers, and other operating locations across North American may be required.
Position Mandate:
- Create a clear, enterprise-wide supply chain vision and translate it into practical operating plans, investments, and measurable results.
- Improve product availability and freshness while optimizing inventory, logistics costs, working capital, productivity, and waste.
- Build a connected planning and execution model that enables effective decisions across Merchandising, Procurement, Store Operations, Finance, Information Technology, and external partners.
- Develop and implement the U.S. distribution network strategy. Identify the appropriate warehouse footprint and locations to support T&T’s U.S. expansion.
- Lead a high-performing organization that is accountable, collaborative, data-driven, safety-focused, and equipped for future growth.
You Will:
- Set and execute T&T's end-to-end supply chain strategy in support of the company's growth plans and financial objectives.
- Translate strategy into clear operating plans, performance commitments, investment priorities, capacity requirements, and measurable business outcomes.
- Provide leadership and oversight for distribution centre operations, transportation, inbound and outbound logistics, and store delivery, ensuring safe, accurate, reliable, and cost-effective execution.
- Continuously improve network capacity, productivity, service, operational controls, and logistics costs to support current requirements and future growth.
- Establish clear performance expectations and service-level agreements for carriers, 3PL providers, fleet service vendors and other logistics partners, and proactively address issues related to service, cost, capacity, transit time, delivery reliability, damage and operational disruptions.
- Partner closely with Merchandising, Store Operations, Finance, Information Technology, and other functions to align priorities and make effective enterprise decisions.
- Use data, analytics, and meaningful performance measures to improve visibility, strengthen accountability, identify opportunities, and support timely decision-making.
- As a partner in process redesign, automation, system implementation, and supply chain transformation initiatives that simplify work and deliver measurable value.
- Ensure compliance with applicable food safety, workplace health and safety, environmental, social responsibility, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
- Serve as an active member of the Leadership Team, contributing to enterprise strategy, priorities, culture, and overall business performance.
- Lead, coach, and develop an efficient logistics and transportation centre, strengthening accountability, engagement, succession, inclusion, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Travel is required to Vancouver and the West coast of the U.S.
You Should Have / Be:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline. A relevant designation or certification, such as APICS CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, or Lean Six Sigma, is an asset.
- 10+ years of progressive distribution centre operations, transportation, and fleet management, leadership experience, ideally within grocery, retail, food distribution, fast-moving consumer goods, or another complex, high-volume environment.
- Demonstrated success leading broad distribution centres operations and transportation across multiple sites and functions, with accountability for service, cost, inventory, productivity, and working capital outcomes.
- Experience leading mid-size to large, diverse, multi-level teams and building strong leadership capability, accountability, engagement, and succession.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional change, business transformation, process improvement, automation, or major system implementations.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, analytical judgment, and the ability to turn complex operational information into clear choices and action.
- Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning, warehouse management, transportation management, supply chain planning, and reporting.
- Exceptional communication, influencing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels and with external partners.
- Experience supporting major ERP, WMS or TMS implementations is required; SAP experience is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an asset.
Pay: $128,000.00-$176,000.00 per year
