Position Summary
The Events Manager will play a pivotal role in launching and growing UP Events, overseeing all aspects of venue and catering sales, planning and execution to create exceptional event experiences and help establish UP Events as one of Toronto’s premier hospitality destinations.
This is a hands-on leadership role combining event sales, business development, client relationship management, event planning, operational oversight, and team development. The Events Manager will guide clients through every stage of the event-planning process, from the initial inquiry and proposal through planning and execution, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience for both venue and off-site catering clients.
As UP Events establishes its venue business and continues to grow its catering division, the Events Manager will balance strategic leadership with direct involvement in day-to-day planning, coordination, and on-site event execution. Working closely with the Culinary, Beverage, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and Restaurant Management teams, the Events Manager will ensure that every event is clearly communicated, thoughtfully planned, and delivered to the highest standards of hospitality, presentation, and operational excellence.
About the Opportunity
UP Events is the new private event venue from By Chef Nuit Hospitality, the award-winning hospitality group behind celebrated restaurants including PAI, Kiin, and Sukhothai. As we prepare to launch this exciting new venture, we’re looking for an experienced and motivated Events Manager to help establish UP Events as one of Toronto’s premier destinations for private events, weddings, corporate functions, and celebrations.
This is a unique opportunity to build something from the ground up. The Events Manager will play an important role in generating bookings, building client relationships, and developing the systems, processes, and service standards that will shape the future of the business. In addition to managing events at UP Events, the Events Manager will oversee and help grow off-site catering opportunities.
During the initial stage, this position will involve hands-on responsibilities for sales, business development, planning, coordination, and event execution. As the venue, catering business, and Events and Catering team grow, the scope and leadership responsibilities of the position may continue to expand.
Sales & Business Development
- Respond to venue and catering inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Conduct venue tours and client consultations.
- Prepare customized proposals, contracts, event estimates, and catering packages.
- Build relationships with corporate clients, wedding planners, event agencies, production companies, hotels, venues, and community partners.
- Represent UP Events and By Chef Nuit Hospitality at networking events, industry showcases, trade shows, and community events.
- Develop and implement strategies to grow venue bookings and off-site catering opportunities.
- Lead the overall sales and business development strategy for UP Events.
Event & Catering Planning
- Lead clients through every stage of the event-planning process.
- Create detailed event timelines, floor plans, banquet event orders (BEOs), and catering production schedules.
- Coordinate menus and event requirements with the Culinary team.
- Organize rentals, staffing, entertainment, transportation, audiovisual requirements, décor, and vendor logistics.
- Ensure all event details are communicated clearly and accurately across team members and departments.
- Develop and manage event budgets while monitoring costs and overall financial performance.
- Negotiate major vendor agreements and maintain productive vendor relationships.
Event Execution
- Oversee event setup, execution, and breakdown.
- Serve as the on-site lead for venue events and major off-site catering functions.
- Anticipate client and guest needs and resolve issues quickly, calmly, and professionally.
- Maintain the highest standards of service, presentation, hospitality, and operational excellence.
Operations & Administration
- Manage event calendars, booking systems, and scheduling requirements.
- Maintain accurate contracts, invoices, BEOs, event records, and client communications.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team on promotional initiatives, venue content, catering materials, and social media opportunities.
- Track sales performance, event revenue, and key performance indicators.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead the Events and Catering team while fostering a culture of hospitality and collaboration.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and develop event coordinators and support staff as the business grows.
- Delegate responsibilities and oversee day-to-day workflow to ensure projects are completed efficiently.
- Coordinate with Culinary, Beverage, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and Restaurant Managers to support seamless communication and event execution.
- Lead regular planning meetings and event briefings with cross-functional teams.
- Establish and continually refine event-planning processes, service standards, and operational procedures.
- Manage staffing requirements for venue and off-site catering events.
Qualifications
- A minimum of five years of experience in event sales, venue management, catering, luxury hospitality, or private events.
- Previous experience leading or managing an events, catering, or hospitality team.
- Proven success managing weddings, corporate events, galas, or large-scale catered functions.
- Strong sales, business development, and negotiation skills.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Position Details
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Reports to the Executive Vice President.
Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
