Overview
Green PI Inc. is seeking to provide an Exterior Mirror Design Responsible Engineer (DRE) for its client. The role will support product engineering and development activities for exterior mirror systems, including component/system definition, supplier coordination, system integration, validation, release, issue resolution, and launch support. The selected candidate will apply strong product development experience, mechatronics understanding, and system-level engineering judgment to ensure exterior mirror components meet vehicle-level functional objectives, quality, performance, timing, cost, regulatory, and customer satisfaction requirements.
Contract Term: This is a long-term contract position.
**Work Location: On-site at Windsor, ON with some travel to the US. The candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada and able to cross the Canada-U.S. border for occasional business travel, , including possessing or being able to obtain any required travel documentation.**
Responsibilities
- Directly involved with supplier design efforts and design reviews to ensure the supplier design meets clients expectations as listed in clients specifications.
- Ensure systems comply with quality, performance, timing, weight, and cost objectives.
- Collaborate with advanced team to develop, define, and package system designs prior to sourcing.
- Serve as regional on-site Mechatronics component support.
- Develop and maintain core boundary diagrams, interface matrices, parameter diagrams, Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA), and Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R).
- Support system integration and proper function with surrounding components, network communications, and Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
- Perform benchmarking, competitive analysis, and investigations on new technology.
- Support quality and warranty initiatives with problem solving, technical specifications, and evaluations.
- Ensure part variation and failure modes are addressed in an expedited way to improve customer satisfaction.
- Support business case studies and develop innovative ways of meeting required functional objectives and technical specifications with reduced investment.
- Perform technical evaluations during the Request for Quote (RFQ) process.
- Responsible for meeting all vehicle program milestones and conducting all releasing processes within client related to the component and its interface within the vehicle.
- Apply design best practices and lessons learned from past product developments within client.
- Responsible to interface with EE systems engineering in the development of vehicle functional (VF) specifications and work with suppliers on Requirements Analysis (RAR).
- Review and approve hardware releases/changes including DVP&Rs.
- Support efforts to meet warranty targets and relevant quality service field initiatives.
- Communicate component product development status on a weekly basis via DRE authored and maintained open issues list/project timelines and technical presentations.
- Ensure component level regulatory compliance requirements are met by coordinating with suppliers and internal client regulatory compliance teams.
- Direct suppliers in developing, testing, and releasing hardware to meet client vehicle level functional objectives and sub-system level behavior objectives.
Qualifications
The potential candidate must possess the following:
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and able to cross the Canada-U.S. border for occasional business travel, including possessing or being able to obtain any required travel documentation.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Hands-on product engineering / product development experience.
- Experience with physical components or systems, not limited to CAD, drafting, or design documentation.
- Strong system-level engineering understanding, including how mechanical, electrical, control, signal, and subsystem interfaces work together.
- Working knowledge of moving mechanical systems, such as kinematics, actuators, hinges, linkages, folding mechanisms, or similar assemblies.
- Exposure to electro-mechanical / mechatronic systems.
- Ability to manage complex technical information, ambiguity, and competing priorities.
- Ability to act as a cross-functional coordination point across engineering, suppliers, validation, quality, manufacturing, program teams, and management.
- Strong technical communication and issue-resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ownership of engineering deliverables, technical issues, decisions, or workstreams.
- Clear evidence of leadership capability, cross-functional influence, decision-making ability, and strong technical aptitude.
In addition to the requirements above, the following are considered assets:
- Exterior mirror and plastic component experience. (STRONG PREFERENCE).
- Experience with automotive mechatronic components involving movement, electrical interfaces, controls, sensors, motors, heating, folding, signaling, or ECU interaction.
- Experience with supplier design reviews for automotive components.
- DFMEA, DVP&R, validation planning, or physical validation experience.
- Engineering release, EBOM, change management, or launch support experience.
- Plant support, warranty issue resolution, root cause analysis, or corrective action experience.
- NX, Teamcenter, CCD/WebCN, or similar OEM engineering/release system exposure.
- Prior OEM or Tier 1 automotive experience.
- Prior co-op, CIE, or related preparatory experience in automotive product engineering.
