Position Overview
The Senior Irrigation Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of irrigation and fertigation systems within an indoor cannabis greenhouse cultivation environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring plants receive consistent and accurate water and nutrient applications throughout all stages of the cultivation cycle.
The Senior Irrigation Technician will oversee irrigation equipment, water and nutrient delivery, environmental interactions, irrigation scheduling, system troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and irrigation-related data collection. The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to identify and resolve irrigation issues before they negatively impact crop health or production. This position requires a hands-on individual who is comfortable working in a controlled agricultural environment and collaborating closely with Cultivation, Crop Care, Environmental Control, and Maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and optimize automated irrigation and fertigation systems throughout the cultivation facility.
- Develop and adjust irrigation schedules based on plant growth stage, environmental conditions, substrate moisture, and crop requirements.
- Monitor irrigation volumes, run-off, EC, pH, pressure, and system performance to ensure consistent delivery.
- Identify and resolve leaks, blockages, inconsistent flow, pressure issues, and other irrigation problems.
- Work with Cultivation leadership to optimize irrigation practices for plant health, yield, and quality.
- Perform routine inspections, cleaning, calibration, and preventative maintenance of pumps, valves, filters, injectors, tanks, sensors, controllers, lines, and emitters.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and automated irrigation issues and respond quickly to system failures.
- Assist with installation, modification, and commissioning of irrigation equipment and infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, calibrations, irrigation adjustments, and equipment usage.
- Maintain an organized inventory of irrigation parts and supplies.
- Monitor source water, nutrient solutions, and run-off, including pH and EC levels.
- Prepare and manage nutrient solutions according to approved cultivation recipes and procedures.
- Monitor plant and substrate response to irrigation and identify overwatering, underwatering, poor drainage, or inconsistent irrigation.
- Analyze irrigation data and trends and recommend adjustments or improvements.
- Work closely with Cultivation, Crop Care, Environmental Control, and Maintenance teams to align irrigation practices with crop requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and training to Irrigation Technicians and cultivation staff.
- Assist with developing and maintaining irrigation SOPs, schedules, and best practices.
- Help to lead irrigation-related projects and system improvements as assigned.

- Follow all company SOPs, health and safety requirements, sanitation procedures, and applicable Canadian cannabis regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation and irrigation records required for production, quality, and compliance purposes.
- Ensure irrigation equipment and work areas remain clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Properly handle and store fertilizers, cleaning agents, and other approved cultivation inputs.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of experience working with commercial irrigation, fertigation, greenhouse, hydroponic, horticultural, or controlled-environment agriculture systems.
- Previous experience in a senior, lead, or supervisory irrigation position is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a commercial cannabis cultivation environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of irrigation principles, fertigation, water management, pumps, valves, filtration, pressure regulation, and irrigation distribution systems.
- Experience with automated irrigation controllers and environmental monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of pH, EC, nutrient management, substrate moisture, and plant water requirements.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read irrigation layouts, equipment manuals, technical documentation, and system diagrams.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance and equipment calibration.
- Strong computer and data-entry skills; experience working with cultivation or environmental monitoring software is an asset.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary production team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify small inconsistencies before they become significant crop issues.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs as required.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in greenhouse/cultivation environments.
- Ability to work around water, fertilizers, cultivation equipment, and elevated temperatures/humidity.
- Ability to wear required PPE and follow all workplace safety requirements.
Working Conditions
- Work will primarily take place within an indoor cannabis greenhouse and controlled cultivation environment.
- Exposure to warm and humid growing conditions, water, irrigation equipment, fertilizers, and cultivation inputs.
- May be required to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, or participate in an on-call rotation depending on production requirements.
- The role may require occasional work outside of regular hours to respond to critical irrigation or equipment failures.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
