Our Business Law Practice Group is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant or Law Clerk to join our team. We are open to considering candidates from either background and will determine the role based on the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications and skillset.
We are looking for a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented professional who is committed to providing exceptional support to our lawyers and clients.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Lawyer, including scheduling appointments, managing calendar, bring-forward system and client related activities;
- Ability to draft and revise, per instruction, accurate legal documentation by set timelines including but not limited to, Articles of Incorporation, Organizations, Re-Organizations, Mergers, Acquisitions, Shareholder and Limited Partnership Agreements, Sales and Refinances, Leasing documentation and Business Name Registrations;
- Maintenance and management of corporate minute books (physical records and electronic databases), including annual resolutions, annual information returns and bring-forward system regarding corporate compliance and expiration dates;
- Perform administrative duties, including preparing/drafting correspondence, filing, entering dockets, preparation of accounts, photocopying, faxing, arranging couriers, etc.;
- Following procedures to open and close files;
- Preparation and invoicing of accounts;
- Communicate with clients and other external parties regarding initial intake or ongoing file management;
- Registration and maintenance of extra-provincial filings;
- Other duties as required.
The successful candidate ideally has the following qualifications:
- Post-secondary Law Clerk Diploma or related discipline;
- 2-5 years’ Law Clerk/Legal assistant experience;
- 1+ years’ Business Law experience, considered an asset;
- Dynamic self-starter with ability to prioritize workload;
- Highly organized and detail oriented with time management skills to manage a fast-paced practice;
- Courteous, client focused and professional attitude;
- Ability to learn quickly and be a team player;
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard legal industry software.
We offer a salary commensurate with experience and a collegial environment.
The expected compensation range for this role is between $48,000 and $60,000.
