As RNF continues to expand its presence across North America, we are seeking a commercially driven Business Development Account Manager – USA to be based in Canada and lead business development and account growth across the United States.
Position Overview
The Business Development Account Manager – USA will be responsible for developing and expanding RNF Pet Products' U.S. customer base, with a primary focus on securing new retail opportunities, developing relationships with U.S. buyers, and growing sales with national and regional retailers.
This is a Canada-based role with a strong U.S. market focus. The successful candidate will work closely with RNF's leadership, sales, product development, supply chain, and operations teams in Canada while serving as a key commercial representative in the U.S. market.
The ideal candidate will have an established network of U.S. retail contacts and a demonstrated ability to open doors with buyers, category managers, distributors, and retail decision-makers.
This role is particularly suited to an entrepreneurial sales professional who is comfortable building a market from the ground up, managing long sales cycles, negotiating commercial agreements, and converting opportunities into sustainable revenue.
Key ResponsibilitiesU.S. Business Development & Account Growth
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy for the U.S. market.
- Identify, prospect, and secure new business opportunities with U.S. national, regional, specialty, grocery, mass, club, e-commerce, and pet retailers.
- Establish and maintain relationships with U.S. buyers, category managers, purchasing teams, distributors, brokers, and senior retail decision-makers.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified U.S. retail opportunities.
- Expand distribution and sales within existing U.S. accounts.
- Develop strategic account plans focused on revenue growth, profitability, distribution, and long-term customer relationships.
- Identify opportunities for branded, private-label, and new product programs within U.S. retail.
Retailer & Customer Management
- Lead customer presentations, buyer meetings, line reviews, category reviews, and new product presentations.
- Coordinate new item introductions, product launches, retailer onboarding, and commercialization activities.
- Manage pricing discussions, negotiations, promotional opportunities, and commercial agreements.
- Work with customers to understand category needs, assortment opportunities, pricing expectations, and competitive positioning.
- Develop and present regular business reviews to key U.S. customers and RNF leadership.
- Maintain strong relationships throughout the customer organization, from buyers and category managers through senior retail leadership.
Sales Strategy & Market Development
- Research and identify high-potential U.S. retailers, distributors, and strategic partners.
- Monitor U.S. pet industry trends, competitive activity, consumer behavior, pricing, and category developments.
- Provide recommendations to RNF leadership regarding U.S. market opportunities, product assortment, pricing, packaging, and go-to-market strategy.
- Analyze sales, forecasts, inventory, promotional performance, and customer data to identify opportunities and risks.
- Develop sales forecasts and provide regular pipeline and revenue updates.
- Work cross-functionally with RNF's Canadian operations to ensure customer requirements can be supported operationally.
Cross-Border Collaboration
- Act as the primary commercial link between U.S. customers and RNF's Canadian headquarters.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations, Finance, R&D, Quality, and Marketing to support U.S. customer requirements.
- Coordinate customer requirements relating to product specifications, packaging, forecasting, lead times, logistics, pricing, and compliance.
- Support the successful execution of U.S. customer programs from initial opportunity through commercialization and ongoing account management.
Travel & Market Representation
- Travel regularly throughout the United States for customer meetings, buyer presentations, trade shows, distributor meetings, and business development activities.
- Attend relevant U.S. pet, food, retail, and consumer-product industry events.
- Represent RNF professionally in the U.S. marketplace and build the company's brand and commercial presence.
Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of experience in Business Development, National Account Management, Key Account Management, or Sales within CPG, pet products, food, household goods, or related consumer industries.
- Demonstrated experience selling into the U.S. retail market.
- Existing relationships or demonstrated access to U.S. retail buyers, category managers, distributors, or other relevant decision-makers is strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of opening new accounts and generating measurable revenue growth.
- Experience working with national or regional retailers and complex buying organizations.
- Strong understanding of U.S. retail buying processes, category management, merchandising, forecasting, promotions, and vendor requirements.
- Experience with retailer portals, new item setup, commercialization, and compliance processes.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and relationship-management skills.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to evaluate margins, pricing, volume opportunities, and account profitability.
- Ability to analyze sales data and translate insights into actionable business strategies.
- Highly self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and comfortable working independently.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple customers, opportunities, and long sales cycles.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the United States as business requirements dictate.
- Ability to work effectively with a Canadian-based leadership and operations team while managing U.S.-based customers.

Compensation & Engagement
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Canada-Based – Remote/Hybrid
Market Responsibility: United States
Compensation: $88,635.36 – $155,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus applicable performance incentives.
This role requires regular travel to the United States for customer meetings, trade shows, retailer presentations, distributor meetings, and business development activities.
