We are looking for a qualified Engineer who can bridge the gap between complex engineering/design and physical production.
This is an active engineering role that goes far beyond a desktop drafting screen. You will take architectural plans and bring them to life—creating precise production drawings in AutoCAD/Revit, programming CNC equipment, and working directly on the shop floor to prototype, test, and optimize physical panel systems and fabrication workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering & Architectural Drafting and Detailing: Apply engineering principles to review architectural blueprints and structural specs. Develop precise 2D/3D shop and fabrication drawings, assembly details, and bill of materials (BOMs) for phenolic facades, wall panels, and locker systems.
- Client communication and Project Management: Communicate with clients including installers and Architects about project requirements and drawing reviews. Provide training to clients on products and installation methods. Manage multiple projects and ensure timely approvals to get through to production.
- Sales Engineering & R&D: Supporting Sales rep through Project Engineering, meeting with Architects to resolve project blockers enabling faster job closing. Receiving feedback from Sales rep and supporting continuous improvement of products
- Fire Testing: Support NFPA 285 and CAN/ULC 134 testing requirements and procedure for product certifications.
- CNC Programming & CAM Operations: Nest drawn parts to optimize sheet yield and Convert CAD models into optimized machine toolpaths (G-code) for multi-axis CNC routers and panel processing equipment, ensuring maximum material yield, structural integrity, and cut precision.
- Hands-On Fabrication & Prototyping: Spend regular, hands-on time on the manufacturing floor setting up machinery, building mock-ups/prototypes, and physically testing panel assembly, joint details, and hardware fitment.
- Process & Tooling Optimization: Evaluate materials, cut feeds/speeds, and assembly methods to establish standardized engineering workflows, improve yield, and reduce manufacturing waste.
- Shop-Floor Engineering & Troubleshooting: Consult with production technicians to resolve machining, tolerances, or structural assembly issues in real time on the shop floor as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education (Required): Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Structural, or Civil Engineering).
- Drafting Expertise: At least 5 years experience in an engineering environment including 3 years of professional CAD experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience is strongly required. Ability to read and interpret complex architectural drawings and structural details.
- CNC & CAM Programming: Practical experience programming CNC machinery (writing/editing G-code, toolpath optimization) for wood, plastics, metals, or composite panel processing.
- Hands-On Shop Fabrication Skills: Direct experience using hand tools and comfortable operating shop equipment, machinery, power tools, and precision measurement instruments on a manufacturing or prototype floor.
- Technical Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate technical engineering concepts clearly to both clients and shop floor personnel.
- Drive & Mindset: Strong problem-solving ability, high initiative, willingness to get your hands dirty on the shop floor, and a passion for physical manufacturing.
- Passion for engineering, drafting, product innovation and learning.
